I operate heavy equipment out of the Union hall in Pennsylvania, wet year, looking for something more this winter.



Hows work look next to you, if you live in a warmer climate?



Any type construction, mostly, but I can fake anything,;)



Was liking the looks of Las Vegas... .
 
The halls around here probably operate different from what you are used to in Pa. . The main locals here I believe are 631 & 14 &(995) ?
 
When I was a member of Operating Engineers worked three winters in Hawaii, they were screaming for operators, employers even paid the union dues, pay was very good. This was a long time ago but I doubt if things have changed, most of the locals there really don't like to work. Problem is finding a place to live, housing is tight.
 
They are digging up every square foot of Northwest Arkansas to build homes, roads, shopping centers, etc. & Meth labs.



Fasting developing area in the country.



Not as warm as some other places, but we typically only have two months (Jan & Feb) of below freezing weather with very little frozen precipitation.
 
Take Jumbo Jet up. Then you could come up to Missouri and pull with the Show Me Smokers group. What part of Arky are you from Jumbo? I visit that part of the state fairly often. I go to Eureka Springs and occassionally make it down to Pea Ridge. I like mules and that is the mule jumping capital of the world according to the locals although the world champion mule is from Crane Mo. I watched it jump Sunday afternoon at Silver Dollar City.

They let you operate equipment?!?! Have your supervisors seen what you do to equipment? (Trannies included:cool: ) I'm one to talk, my truck and I got hit last week and it wasn't exactly the other guys fault. Dam Dodge A-pillars!



Hehe, if you find anything interesting and need a roomie, let me know. I graduate in December and will entertain anything interesting that pays. :rolleyes: My major is Building Construction Management, so maybe they'll let me be the guy in the truck 'supervising'. Oo.

Got lots of work in St. Louie

Come on down, we got lots of work, if there is an empty patch of grass they are building on it. Good Union town, great wage, hey wait a minute I sound like my business agent. One warning if you come to St. Louie just be prepared to answer one question. "So, where did you go to high school?" Just smile and tell them you went to Vashon. I turn Thirty in November, and can't believe how many people sitll ask me that.





P. S. My brother lives in Marionville, Mo just down the road from Crane, and I have seen that mule.
 
Got 2 good jobs if ya can fake em out good for ya Gene ol buddy.

Both pay rather well and come with some fringe benefits.



1st one-Drive truck in the Outback of Austrailia. I got a good friend of mine who went over there driving one of those monsters and is raking in the coals. Benefits... See some new country and all the kangaroo you can eat after you mash one... LOL. (btw,he is screaming at me all the time to come over and drive,if I could figure out how to get there with out it involving a jet plane or a boat I am in like flint and there).



2nd one-As winter approaches there is always a need for good quailified,semi psychotic,truck drivers in Northwestern & Northern Canada driving trucks across the frozen lakes. Think of it,its like living a Joey Chitwood Thrill show all the time. Mash the gas,haul some,well you know,and NEVER buckle you seat belt as you may have to jump or exit fast when the ice begins to break.....



I know your not a cold climate person but the northern job pays well and may fund Team Sleddy faster,besides you'd get lost in the outback to easily... . LOL... ... Andy
 
I don't think Gene would be a good candidate for driving across frozen lakes...



I saw a show called 'Ice Truckers' or something like that - those guys that drive across the lakes are on glue. :eek: Besides, if Gene were ever filmed/featured in a subsequent show..... he wouldn't stop talking about AMSOIL..... that doesn't make for good TV. :D



If I had my ticket to drive a class-8 truck - I'd love go to Australia and drive one of those truck-trains. The tractors that yank those trailers along are massive... . WAY bigger than anything we have or ever had in the US... . :cool:

Tell me more about Australia... I have a class B and was going to get my class A this summer anyway...



How big, how many trailers? I don't know if I could navigate very well down there, I have enough problems here. :rolleyes:



Ice trucking is a different story... I saw that show too, and they aren't allowed to drive over about 20 mph because the ice actually makes waves underneath, and if they drive too fast the wave will 'rebound' off the shore and pulverize the ice in front of you before you can get to the shore. :eek: :--) Those guys do make some bank, though.

Deo Read (therabbittree) had a book on the Australian truckers that I had briefly looked at..... and the road trains... . He could probably dig it up and shed some light on the subject.



I usually don't have a problem with cold weather - but the ice truckers take winter to a new dimension. I'm not so sure that I want to be at the mercy of Mother Nature the way those guys are... .

massive construction ( 65k homes) in the Sacramento area, you just need to look like and speak fluent Mexican, I do see the big guys Teichert, Granite with projects going on all over my 160 mile a day commute. I think its LOCAL 3 out this way.



went to work (got a job) for the State a few years back, as when I went back into the construction trades out here, after having been gone from them for about 15 years, I found that all the trades had gone to Mexican and Russian labor and that we journeymen couldn't communicate ( or they faked ignorance), hopefully not the same problems with the Operators.
