Welcome Earthling, We on planet Cummins will need a little more info before we can properly provide an answer. What transmission and what is he to do with this monster truck. Do you think he can control this much power or is he used to a mear X brand truck. He may need some training and hopefully you can provide that. We await your reply. "Live long and prosper" Over.

i should have proof read my post , its got an auto trans and 3. 54 gears , he will use it mostly as hiscommuter vehicle and for occasional towing duty of about 6to7k pounds . he is presently driving a 150 4x4 , and has had brand x gasser . but after he drove my '00 2500 BOMBed Cummins a couple of times ,i knew it wouldn't be long before he stepped up to the plate.

i assume the trans in this has probably been apart once ? other than a few oil leaks that need to be fixed , what a problem areas on a 1st gen ?

The truck you discribe should have no problem with the towing weight you discribe. Pay close attention to the 3-4 shift. If it hunts between 3 & 4 it probably needs a TPS. Where are the leaks you discribe? I might attribute a leaky engine to lack of maintanence. Check to see if it has a HD trans cooler(under the bed of the truck with an electric fan attached. Does it smoke much at idle or under load? Personally,I've pulled with autos and 5spds and much prefer the 5spd. Better milage and pulls so much better. Also a lot more fun to drive. Hard to say much more, other than the just look it over real good and drive it at a different speeds. Check for oil pressure and engine temp fluctuations. Good Luck,I'm sure others will have more tips.

Ask about the mileage, ask if they have turned up the pump, ask for service records. Ask waht type of oil was used in the oil changes. Ask when they changed the rear breaks, Pull an oil sample and send it off to analyize. Just some thoughts.
