Looking to Purchase...

I'm looking at purchasing a 2006 or early 2007 2500.



What questions/issues/bugs/glitches etc should I look for/ask? I know a few people who have one or the other and say there isn't but we all know that not every truck is the same.



If I can't find the right truck, I would also consider a 2008-2009 6. 7. Other than the DPF and EGR, what things should I consider?

hhmmm. . I can only speak from personal experience, so here goes.

I've recently developed a front end issue that was resolved by having the dealership perform a TSB update. I had a small issue with the interior lights about a year and a half ago that DMC finally released a TSB for that has corrected that.

Other than that, some parts stores will try and sell you a 10 micron filter that looks just like the 7 micron that Cummins mandates to keep your warranty intact.

Thru the little tweaks and updates, I think I have a pretty good handle on where my truck is. I absolutely love my truck now. . there are a few small things I still plan on changing, but I plan on keeping this truck for many years to come.

I could have purchased a 07. 5 truck with the 6. 7L regen engine but did not want the added complications of the aftertreatment system.

That's probably a good recommendation, although it will definitely limit his selection.

If you are looking at used trucks at Dodge dealers - have them run the vin so you can see what things have been done to the truck. If you are not buying from a Dodge dealer, you can write down the vin and go pay to have it run. Either eay, it would be good information to have.



As far as buying a truck that has had mods - I would not buy one that has any kind of programmer on it. I would buy a truck with an aftermarket air box, aftermarket shocks, air bags, bypass oil filter, additional fuel filtration - the things that have been done that are not out of the ordinary when someone has taken care of the truck and made improvments over some of the stock parts.



I have an 06, it is an excellent truck, I have added a few goodies, but if I was to sell my truck tomorrow, someone would be getting a well taken care of vehicle that has not been abused and is in excellent shape. I know several who buy trucks, do a few things to them, then turn them around every 3-4 years. They are in great shape.

Oh, one other little issue I've had..... The blend door on the A/c fell off while on vacation in the middle of the summer..... It seems to be a pretty common problem. I DON'T run my a/c on high fan speed anymore. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I feel better about it.

As others have said, I would be leary of buying one that has or has had a programmer on it. When I look at a truck, I look for dents/scratches in the bed, fifth wheel or goosneck hitch, brake controller. Although my rationallitymay be flawed, usually when you find that the truck has been worked/used for what its built for, its typically been better taken care of. There are some kids around here that have 2500 4x4's with fancy wheels and multiple programmers installed that have NEVER pulled anything bigger than a golf cart trailer... NOT the truck I would want!.

Thanks for the input. A truck with no mods is what I'm looking for. You just never know how they're treated. I've never thought about taking the VIN to a dealership. I'll definitely have to remember that if I find one from an individual or otherwise.

In addition I would'n buy a truck with after market larger wheels and tires as they will eventually cause damage to the suspension and front end. The same can be said for heavy grill/brush guards and winches.
