I am new to TDR. I joined so I can use all your guidance that I can. I have 1996 2500 4x4 with(bad idea) automatic. I am currently going through the tedious task of acquiring the parts to convert to 5-speed. First things first, the engine needs serious work. Have put in #8 TST plate, removed exhaust. I want to remove silencer ring. Can someone tell me how?????? The star wheel question will be another day. Thank you Marc

Welcome aboard! :D The silencer ring is easily removed by taking off the turbo hose on the inlet to the turbo, and using a flat blade screwdriver to remove the snapring that holds it in place. Takes about 5 minutes. Save it though, the turbo whine can be anoying when towing. BTW the Auto is only a bad idea while it is stock. Get yourself the proper setup for the auto and its not abad idea anymore:D .
