I currently own a 2005 5.9L 2500 Ram 2wd ST edition. No bells and whistles.

I want to get a 6.7L that has at least power windows and door locks. But i am being told continuously to not go below a 2012 because of the EGR and the poor fuel mileage. If this isn't a true statement please explain why. Or if you can explain a way around this please let me know.

Thank you!

If you want a 2500, you need a 2014 or newer. I have a Tradesman with the popular equipment and chrome package. Its about as basic as you can get. I have AC, cruise, power windows/locks, keyless entry, etc. The Tradesman is the equivalent of the ST.

The 2013 didn't get the stronger (50 psi) frame.
But if you are not towing at it's design limit, you don't need the stronger frame. I also have the tradesman with the popular equipment. The 2013+ has the reduced egr and more efficient cummins that runs at full optimal temps and doesn't have the fuel dilution of the pre 2013's

Oops... you are 100% right. I was thinking about the new frame design, not the engine. I would still recommend the 2014 or newer 2500, because the new frame is that much better.

A Big Horn will get you better seats with power adjustment. Actually, new trucks are very close in cost to 1-3 year old used ones at the places like Dennis Dillon in Idaho. Financing is easier and cheaper on a new vehicle vs used. They come with new vehicle smell! SNOKING

I never had a single issue with EGR or any smog related stuff on my 2011 in the 42k I drove it. I never got a single evic message on anything. I would still have it but RAM bought it for 10% above NADA retail because of tie rod issues.

Mine is fine for me

My truck is fine enough for me as I will not be towing that much weight. Just when I get rid of my MS. After that I plan to keep this truck into retirement which is over ten years away. As for the frame, I was under the impression that the '13 and above were better for towing heavy loads as mine is rated for 25k. Someone please explain this to me?

In 2013, only the 3500's got the stronger frame (not the 2500's ). The original poster mentioned the 2500 model.

I found out the hard way when unigoose sent me the gooseneck hitch for the new frame. They didn't realize that the 2013 2500's had the 2012 frame. But i saw it mentioned somewhere that they did reinforce the old 2012 frames when bringing out the 2013's. However, it is not the 50psi completely redesigned frame.

ok. Gotcha. I did not know that about the 2500's.

I just upgraded last night from an 05 QCLB 4x4 cummins to a '14 3500 CCLB Dually Tradesman. Honestly the tradesman interior is plenty fancy enough for me... don't feel any "less nice" than my 05 SLT interior was.

Couldn't be happier with the '14 so far!

I wouldn't dismiss a pre-def truck. While they don't get quite as good of mileage as the newer trucks, they are still good trucks. I would consider a 2011 or 12 high output. I have had no problem with mine. As far the emissions go, they are simpler than the def trucks and easier to delete if wanted.
