Transmission Leak - Worry or not?

Sudden power loss while towing

So, a few weeks ago I posted up about getting the dreaded P0606 code on my 2011 Crew Cab LB DRW Laramie 4x4 (added so folks know what truck), but no MIL. Folks said clear it and forget it. So, I did. This was after throwing a fueling code with MIL, but no other indications of any issues. That was while I had my "heavy" trailer (the all steel, 12K capacity one) with my Jeep in tow up out of the Phoenix, AZ, valley. When I cleared the codes, only a couple for grid heater performance were there.

Well, my FOBIK has been acting up and getting worse. I kind of have to wiggle it when turned to get the truck to start. It's been getting worse in the last week. Turning and wiggle will get my dash and such to flicker with an audible and tactile (through the FOBIK) relay sound, but it will eventually engage the starter. The tip to start isn't working worth a darn at all. A couple times earlier this week, it did crank for half a second with no start.
A couple days ago the morning was cold enough for the grid heaters to kick in. So, I waited to start. Upon going to start, it did the flicker thing and threw the MIL. Did the let test and it showed only P0606... I was a bit nervous to say the least.
Went to clear the codes last night and the only codes were the grids again (P02609 and another I wrote down wrong and can't find in a list). The P0606 doesn't even show up in the scan tool (OTC Genisys), but could be seen on the dash. Cleared the codes and no more codes or MIL on the truck.

Did some research last night and it looks like a WIN is in the cards for me. Just not the win I was hoping for.
Questions for you smart folks:
1. Where is a good place that doesn't want arms and legs for these?

2. What number(s) in the VIN do I change to get the remote start (or, can I borrow a VIN? ) I'd like to start getting the parts for the factory remote start and then have the right sales code put in the ECM, as I've read here and elsewhere.

3. What is needed to program the new WIN and my current FOBIKs to the truck? I'm sure it doesn't require a dealer visit, as there's at least one guy in Laredo, TX, I see online who makes it a business to deal with these.

Thanks in advance, folks
Sorry for the book, figured it may help someone else when searching for similar issues.

First thing I would do is look for an OEM Remote Start Kit. Those include a new WIN and new FOBIKS. When the WIN in my 2008 Town and Country took a dump that's the first thing my dealer looked for but ALAS they were no longer available for the 08-09 Chrysler. That may not be the case for you truck. It's a lot cheaper than buying the items piece by piece.

Just an idea.

I did buy an aftermarket remote start this winter for that same van. Hit the factory lock button 3 times and it starts. A simple solution.

From my reading (it is the Internet... must be true. Oh, and I'm a french fashion model) the ECM on these trucks has to be programmed with the, I think, GXM sales code for the remote start to work. Would love to be wrong on that.
I appreciate the pointer and will begin that search. I'm still stuck with getting a new WIN programmed (it's in the ECM, I know a WiTech can do it). I so hope that I can get a lead on "other than dealer" for WIN programming to the ECM.

I just took a break from finishing up taxes (anything to get away from that for a minute) and I can only find 2013 and up so far. Will look again later.

I am very lucky that I have a great dealer so I don't go elsewhere when I need something like that done. Buy most of my vehicles there even if they are not Mopar branded. I do know that the van fought them during the WIN module change, had to buy 2 new FOBIKS as the old ones refused to link up with the new WIN module. After loading the new FOBIKS it then accepted the old ones.....now have four working FOBIKS for the stupid thing. I watched it happen, that's just how it went. Nobody did anything wrong.

If you happened to get into a similar cluster bomb and were not at a dealer it could be an issue......

Here it is Big Dog.....I think....Always check my work....:D

Only left with what's needed to program this thing into my truck. Also, in the event I can't get the kit, can I reuse my existing FOBIKs?

Unfortunately no. The secret key (not the PIN) in the fob is tied to your OEM WIN. For security the fobs can not be programmed to another WIN. There was an exception to this for a couple years when the new LX cars (300, Charger) came out with STAR connectors in 2011. Those fobs could be swapped to another vehicle.

That's what freaked me out with the Town and Country. Dealer told me to bring a pair of new FOBIKS with me that night just in case as he didn't have any on hand so I picked up a pair in Bangor on my way home. Tech tried old ones first in hopes of saving me a few sheckles but they would not take.
Loaded the two new ones successfully and then just for grins I told him to try one of the old FOBIKs and it took, did the remaining old FOBIK and that took as well. Maybe with two already loaded the WIN is not so fussy about any additional FOBIKs???

That seems to be what I'm reading, too.
Seems kind of asinine that you have to spend the extra $400 for a couple FOBIKs and the WIN can be had for a couple hundred.
Oh, to have a tumbler again...

If there were not so many dishonest people, theves, and ambulance chasing attorneys this would never have been an issue.

I owned a mid eighties Cadillac that had an aftermarket remote start / alarm system....it didn't work and some functions were a mite flaky so I removed it all one sunny Saturday morning. I had a 5 gallon bucket full of relays, 3M scotchlocks and wire by the time I was finished.

Nothing like the simplicity of today for sure....

That's funny, with the old systems, could you even have remote starts?

Heck, I was speaking only to the WIN and requirement to buy new FOBIKs at $200/each, too. Used to be, you'd buy an ignition tumbler and keys came with it.
I can't even find the remote start kit out there for sale. I called a couple of the places mwilson linked earlier and they are "out of stock, not getting any more."

If anyone knows a trustworthy source for a WIN, I'd appreciate it. Ebay isn't my favorite place by a long shot. If I have to, I'll just go the dealer route and have them do end to end all at once. The truck is barely starting at this point (tip to start not working at all; long crank to start; keeps throwing P0606 with MIL after a couple starts...)

It's been sold, I should have mentioned that you should grab it if you wanted it.

Keep trying that part number once a day or so, I just checked his site to see if he had anymore that were not listed yet.

There was a piece by piece listing of all the parts contained within that kit with part numbers if you want to pursue that...not as cheap of course. I can find that and post it if you want....

Your dtc doesn't indicate a win issue.....
Possible Causes
Possible causes
ENGINE OR FUEL MODIFICATIONS THAT EXCEED OEM SPECIFICATIONS
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

Yeah, the DTC is related to PCM. The truck is untouched.
The code only comes up after an especially difficult start... where the dash flickers many times before I can get the thing to hold the starter (tip to start non-functioning right now).

I'm breaking down and looking at using autotechelectronic in Laredo, TX, for a new, not refurb, WIN. I'm getting a remote start WIN from him, already programmed to my FOBIKs and ready to just plug into the truck and run (no dealer visit necessary). I'm open to comments, as the dealer wants almost that much just to program the WIN!
I'll see if I can keep this beast from throwing codes after I get it starting like it should. If not, then I start chasing those gremlins. Nothing like buying a used truck where the dealer history and such look great, but things start acting odd 90-120 days after purchase.
