Looks like the axel is leaking!?!?!

i just had to replace rotors pads and caliper. now it looks like my axel seal is leaking. any advice on how to tell or see if it is some thing else. i was thinking maybe we didnt tighten the nut enought. not to the piont where u cant turn it but a little more. the other side is fine. no the splined shaft was not stuck in the bearing with the rotor. any sugestions would be great.

The nut being loose will not affect the axle seal,but may hurt the bearing. If it is coming out of the ends of the axle tube,it is probably the axle seal. If it is in behind the rotor,then the grease seal on the wheel bearing may have gotten damaged. It is normal to see a little grease around the wheel bearing area. See here

Clean everything off,and recheck it again,to verify where it is coming from. Sometimes the axle seal will stop leaking by itself,and you may not have to worry about it.

It looks like it is leaking from the tube down the knuckle. i hope it fixes its self we really did not jar it that bad. i will find out when i get home frome work today. another ? how hard r they to replace? like they say when it rains it poors.

Also what is the best gear lube to use in the diff case? iam going to do a search to see what comes up.

It requires diff removal,so it could be difficult if you don't know what your doing. It may also require some extra parts if your not carefull. I would wait a while an see how bad it leaks first. Some people reported the leak stopped on it;s own after a while,or it comes an goes. The first link below shows the procedure

I had the same thing happen to me, The shop that replace the Rotors, Had let the Pass side axle fall out of its Position causing some of the gear lube to slowly run down the Pass side tube and make it look like a leak. What I did was Bought brake cleaner and shot into the tube to wash the lube out. It has'nt leaked now for 15 months.

Mine leaked for about two weeks and 500 miles before it stopped on it's own. I wouldn't go too much longer than this though, dirt sticking in the leaking oil around the seal can wear a groove in the shaft creating one more part to replace.

It looks like hdh is right. it comes and goes since last night i have seen no signs of it so i hope that is the end of the problem. i will take some brake cleaner and spray it just to make shur. thanks for the help guy's

I just had the leak in my right axel seal fixed today. I had replaced the ball joints and front u-joints and must have nicked the seal. The leak was kind of sporadic and I never did have to add any differential fluid but it never stopped seeping. Had the Dodge dealer replace the seal, which they did for $150, as they were the cheapest place in town. It appears that they just removed the shift motor on the axel to access the seal. None of my original work appeared to be disturbed.
