I was doing my oil change today when I noticed that my AMSoil filter was loose on the inside of the canister. I took it apart and saw that the spring was side ways. Has this happened to anyone else? I have started to use Fleetguard filters instead.

The one thing I did notice between the two was that the AMSoil filter had 6 small holes and the Fleetguard had 8 big ones. I don't know how that matters.

The amount of "holes" in the filters doesn't really matter, as the filtering media is going to determine how much oil goes through the filter. As too the "spring" being sideways, what are you speaking about as sideways?

When I took the filter off of my truck the filter element was shaking on the inside. When I cut the filter apart and pulled it out the spring that pushes the filter element up was side was.

Sounds like a massive failure to me... Good thing you got that thing off! Are you aware of the oil filter special the TDR did a short ways back in the magazine? It's really worth a read. I'm not too picky about oil, but the filter? HE11 YHEA!!!!

No I'm not aware. I might not have been a member when they did it. Do you know the magazine issue it was in? I bought some Fleetguard LF16035 on Amazon.

I'm kinda worried as to how long it was like that. I "think" it happened when I took it off but who knows. Needless to say I'll never buy one again.

HDR... here's the .pdf of the "oil filter special". https://www.turbodieselregister.com/OIL_FILTER.pdf Interestingly enough they didn't even look/include the two BEST full flow filters available for our Cummins ISB, the Amsoil EaO80 or Donaldson ELF7349

The Donaldson ELF7349 has the exact same media inside and can be found much cheaper than the Amsoil EaO80.

I wouldn't put a AMSoil filter on my LAWNMOWER. Put one on and drove it 150 miles and took it off. With the engine hot, the oil pressure went from 35psi to 20psi at idle, running from 60psi to 45 psi. This is with a real gauge at the filter housing. The dash gauge read the same with both filters. You can have the 6 little holes but I will take the 8 big holes in the Fleetguard. I think Cummins knows best.

I choose fleetguard... all the way... . but I also change my oil at every 5,000 miles... . just because, I think in the long run, the motor will appreciate it... .

If you are speaking of the Amsoil EaO-80 filter, the media has metal caps on either end of the filtering media, and a metal "flat spring" shaped such that it pushes up on the bottom side of the metal cap on the bottom of the filter. This metal spring covers the entire bottom of the filter can. At this point, I am not sure you are talking about the EaO-80 oil filter. As "Navydude" said, the Amsoil EaO-80 and the Donaldson ELF-2349 are the exact same filter..... no difference other than the name.
