Dealer changed my fuel filter a couple weeks ago and they took it for a spin down the road and back. When I went to get in the truck I smelt diesel and poped the hood to find the fuel filter leaking as it wasn't tightened enough. They took it back in and tightened it and cleaned the truck.

Question is will that little run with a loose filter cause any damage? I do not notice the truck running any different. All I thought about was loosing an injector.

I had the same exact thing happen to my 01. 5. Never had any problems after it was tightened up after that. Fuel pressure stayed fine, etc... .

The fuel filter is in the low pressure portion of the fuel system before the HP injection pump in the stream from fuel tank to injector.

A fuel leak at the fuel filter cannister has no effect on an injector or HPCR pump and is no different than opening the water drain valve on the bottom of the cannister.

Gotta love Dealer Service. How much did you pay for that leak? lol

Especially since fuel filters are so easy to change yourself. At least my 05 is. I don't know about an 09.

The 6. 7's SUCK to change! I have not figured out how to do it without dumping fuel eveywhere. I broke mine loose from the bottom and spun it off from the wheelwell. I had to dump the filter all over the front axle to get the filter out. it was either lay under it and get a fuel bath, take it off thru the wheelwell and either drop the full filter since I couldn't reach it thru the wheelwell and under the truck or dump it out and take it out thru the wheelwell on its side

Thanks guys. Just trying to reassure myself nothing should come of this other than the mess. Odinjunior can you believe that this cost $78! I was in need and headed out of town but I won't make the same mistake next time.

Scrappy, I found I can get in from underneath by the trailing arms. I hold a small jar under the drain hose as I open it and then I crack the housing loose to finish draining and then just drop and replace without much more than a few drops spilled. Thru the wheel well is a nightmare, I didn't have any skin left on my arms after that one. Why didn't they make it a change from the top is beyond me
