Throw away those H2E's and Hx 55's kids!

Have any of you gone from a muffler less truck to a 4 inch exhaust, and noticed a difference. I would like to lower my EGTs, but they're not that bad. I dont want a noisier truck. I tow quite a bit. I hope someone has done this, and can tell me if there's a difference. I don't want to spend my hard earned money, if it does not help.

Anu suggestions.

Do you have the stock exhaust, less muffler, right now? Don't remember if the '01 has a Cat (or just a reasonator) on it or not. It could be plugged if you do.

A larger turbine housing (hot side of turbo) would probably help you out more than anything, other than going to a larger turbo like a HX-40 or the like.

I don't have a muffler, and I'm sure it's a resonator. What I want to know, is if going to a 4'' exhaust is going to make a difference in egts versus what I have now. If it doesn't, I wont mess with it.

thanks

Lost the muffler on my 99... no noticeable difference in cab noise but outside at idle it sounds so much more like our old 9U D6 we had on the farm that it makes me :D:D:D.

Talked to quite a few folks when I did that as I had the same question as BigA... most said that going to a 4" wouldn't show any real performance or EGT drop until you had a rig over 400 HP or were running a different turbo.

My $. 02...
