On my 97 12v, I have noticed that all of the sudden, I can only get about 10-12 lbs. of boost on the westac guage. I always got 20-25 before... ... Can a turbo start losing boost? Or do I more likely have a pinhole in the rubber tubing somewhere. Truck seems fine.
Check the hose from the injection pump to the turbo wastegate. Also check that the wastegate isn't stuck open. And of course check that your air intake tubes are on all the way and the clamps tight.
Another possibility is the wastegate actuator. The bellows let go in my truck and cost me about 5-6 pounds of boost. They aren't cheap, so try other fixes first.
radixr, a pin hole in the boost gauge line will show a lower reading even though the boost hasn't changed. Think that's what gitchesum was refering to.
Mine split at the barb fitting on the back of the gauge, fixed that, still weak, did the lever adjustment, and it shot up to 35 lbs. The lever was hanging up on the nose of the #8 plate.
