Hi I need some help on this one

A couple of weeks ago when I left work my truck lost power it would move but would not go very fast no matter how much I pushed on the accelerator pedal all I got was a lot of black smoke from the tail pipe. After a short time the power picked back up and the truck ran normal the rest of the way home. A day or so later I was leaving for work in the early morning and it did the same thing again. I had used my exhaust brake to help warm the cab of the truck up before I left and I did this the other time as well. Is there any thing that can malfunction in the exhaust brake that will cause a loss of power? I will say that the power problem did get better when I shut the e-brake off. I have not driven with it on since and the problem has not happened since.

Thanks Tony

Hey! That's just what mine did (does). I got news for you. Either your LP is dead, or your VP is on it's way to a dirt nap. I know mine had great pressure, but it still acted the way you describe. Now, if I rev it a little at idle, she smokes and mis-fires. No power (something I'm not used to), and just wait until you flog it and it stalls. Yup, I think you've been chosen as a 'nuther winner of a failing VP. Just like me.

If you want a place to get a pump at a reasonable price, let me know. Trust me. It's not the brake.
