Losing Power

I am writing this for a buddy of mine who does not have the internet. He has a 97 club cab long box dually 3500. He has 3. 54 gears 4x4 and 5 spd. Claims it is losing power compared to when it was newer. I believe it has about 80,000 mi on it. Some things to check on would help. Perhaps someone had something similar?? Thanks

2001 bright white qc, sb, 4x4,auto,3. 54s, slt laramie, camper group,trailer group,6spkr infinity cd, travel convenience package, cloth seats in agate, stainless running boards (Wifes orders), stainless wheel opening trim, stianless steel tube box rails, and soft roll access cover(toneau cover), K&N Air filter, 265/16s on factory aluminum wheels.

Your buddy really needs gauges to see what's going on,but 70k or so is usually when the cat starts plugging,lose it. Might also try adjusting the valves and check that the throttle cable and linkage are working correctly. Have someone floor it(engine off)while another checks that it is reaching full throttle. Also make sure filters have been changed on a regular basis.

Have him ck all the hose clamps between the turbo & the intake manifold. That's why the boost guage is so nice, even if not running modified.

If it hasnt been done, he's past-due for a valve adjustment! That will wake things up...

Similar problems with my 97 were cured by cat removal,it was plugged solid.

Could be caused by low fuel pressure such as lift pump and more likley over flow valve.
How are his fuel lines (rubber part)?
I've got 112,000 and my cat is still singing.
