this is my first post so please bear with me.

about a year ago my baby (the truck) started losing power and the feuel economy dropped. it might be the winter feul i was told.

it never got better thru the summer, was told fuel filter could be to blame (changed that) no difference. dealer said adjust valves,

took it in, they said it would waste their time & my money, not enough miles on engine to justfy even checking. still low on power

but now milage is down to 12. 5 empty and 7. 5 loaded!

dealer says "probably just the winter fuel"

p. s. now the truck is out of warranty. 44000 miles

any help would be appriciated.

What year and type of truck do you have? Under the user control panel, you can put your truck information in the signature box. This helps other members diagnose your difficulties. Take a look at some of the other members signature at the bottom of their posts to get an idea of what to include.

Do you have any paper work from the dealer saying they did not want to look it over?

Ekluver,

Forget Dodge, go to Cummins for engine problems. I would suspect timing if it is a 12 valve. Or it could be valves. The stealer jujst didnt want to mess with you and your "stinky" diesel, sounds to me like. If you have a 24 valve, do a search, there are a few posts about gaining mpgs from the electronic units hither and yon. If you are getting 12 empty, you HAVE a problem. My 93 gets 12 with a GCVW of 22K.

Top of the page, left side, white oval that says "User Control Panel". Click that oval, then your personal account home page will come up. Top quarter of page, left side again, click on Edit Profile. There you can edit all the information.

Oops, back to your original problem.

Yup I'd say there was a problem. My '02 3500 4x4 has been averaging 16 - 17MPG City and Highway, summer and winter fuel. All empty. My best mileage has actually been with a load in the mountains. I got 19-20MPG on a round trip. Go figure.

With your truck this new, you have the 5 year 100k mile warranty on the engine, and I think that includes the fuel system, at least what is attached to the motor. Check me if I am wrong here. If you have to go back to the dealer, go to the same one that said nothing was wrong the first time. If you have been fighting this thing for the last 44k miles, now 8k over the DC warranty, you may be able to push them to fix it under the original warranty. You just have to push and not give up like they are hoping you will. If you can get an independent shop to say that the problem has been there all along that will help.

You could have a bad sensor or two that could cause low power and or bad fuel MPG . check AIT (air intake temp. ) look for bad connection dirty plastic tip . Disconnect unscrew clean with brake cleaner lube rubber o ring tighten to 10 lbs

Torque Do get a Repair Manual for your truck look in back of owners manual for order form . Or look on line for Dodge site and find order from them. Or see your dealer about $106 with shipping. Ron in Louisville Metro KY  :D
