Today on my trip to town pulling a small empty dump trailer my truck lost power I could drive slowly and when I came to a steep uphill grade I had to shift down to 2nd gear to make it to the top. Is engine starving for fuel?? Perhaps my filter is restricted ?? I slowly made it to town every once in a while a squealing sound that seemed to be coming from the tailshaft area of my transmission or the muffler area I stopped and looked under the truck expecting to see a bunch of stuff wrapped around the driveshaft or something I didn't see a thing. I stopped at dealership (they were worthless) From their I drove to where I was going for Xmas shopping truck pretty much ran fine though I babied it. On the way home everything operated fine but I did hear a slight squeal once in a while.
Seems to be interment my truck is a stock 2005 3500 SRW with Nav 6 sp transmission with 31,000 miles on it. Also I see no check engine lights. Shouldn't something alert me if there were codes?

Thanks

Anyone have experience with this kind of problem? I will crawl under it tomorrow it it doesn't rain. Only thing I can think of is replace the filters in fuel system . Thanks

Sounds more like a boost or exhaust leak.
Thanks Sag2. I will do some more research into my problem, Do you mean a boost leak and or a exhaust leak ? Would this be perhaps at a rubber coupling or the couplings themselves? I will look for some schematics so I know what to look for. I don't know much about the truck as this is the first problem I have had. Would the squeal noise be passing throught the exhaust system as to me the noise seems to be coming behind the passenger seat under the cab ( I have a Quad cab). Thanks again.............. Bill

Does it always squeal it you stomp an the throttle?
I don't think so, But I never stomped on it, when it started running normally I took it easy with it as I had driven to town 1.5 hrs from my home and wanted to get home with my xmas dinner fix'ns etc. It seemed it would squeal a little when I went around a curve (made me think something was flexing ? Sorry for the delay in responding but with the Christmas coming my wife is keeping me busy. The rain has also kept me from looking under the hood or crawl under it yet, Thanks for the reply

Thanks sag2 I will check that out, see if I find the problem

Thats what I meant with the question if it squeals always, if you stomp on the throttle your turbo starts to build boost pressure.
If there is a leak somewhere in the intake/exhaust system we know it by that test procedure.
If the throttle doesn't have a direct influence on the squeal then you have to search different places, it wont be a leak in that area.

Now go out and stomp on it!

Merry Christmas, Hope Santa was good to you and your family's

Perhaps I have 2 problems each possibly independent of the other I really appreciate your help

Problem # 1
A squealing noise, that sounds like a belt slipping and also a louder sound that almost sounds like the drive shaft has got a tarp wrapped around it or a squealing bearing at tail shaft of my manual transmission

I first remember hearing a chirp or squeal a few weeks ago this when I was entering the freeway accelerating and shifting my manual transmission ( my thought at the time was that my belt needs to be adjusted a bit tighter once I got home until then to accelerate a bit slower and no quick shifts.

This squeal or chip was very short in duration a second or so, and I only noticed it a few times. Has this noise just gotten worst? This sound may be from the turbo system as I am thinking this noise I hear when I was driving is coming from the under the floor board area of the passenger side of the rear seat area, itraveling through the exhaust system This noise is not continuas but seems to be happening more often. ( I am going to check for leaks in the intake and exhaust side as soon as the weather clears

Problem # 2
Loss of power, someone suggested it may be the APPS sensor as he had a similar issue, (but no squeal noise) he posted “check your APPS sensor. When this goes all you have a dead pedal but may take months to reach failure.”

When I lost power my accelerator pedal felt different not much resistance seemed like I had 20% pedal and after that if I pushed down more the engine speed did not change. Then later all was fine with the pedal and engine power. Yet I still have the intermittent squeal noise

I am going to check to see if there are any codes on the truck will report back

Checking for codes will definitely tell you if it is the APPS (P2121, P2122, P2123). The accelerator won't feel any different when the APPS starts to fail. But, turning off the engine and restarting has always fixed the immediate problem for me. If it is the APPS, follow the sage advice of others here and order the Timbo replacement from Geno's. I ordered one, and installing it was going to be my Christmas project until bigger fish on my truck needed frying. It's not expensive, arrives quickly and they even included a bite sized Snickers bar for my eating pleasure.

Crunch, Well there was NO codes all that came up was ....done.

I will keep driving it until I figure it out I will try to tape the noise it makes, with my phone. Thanks for the reply, Yes I use Geno's,

Back in my Hot Rodding days. All ya needed was Compression, Fuel & Spark.

I had this same problem once and it was a pinhole leak in the hose from the turbo to the intercooler, I could not see the pinhole by just looking I had to pressurize the line by having a friend rev the truck while I sprayed soapy water on the hose connections

Update I took truck to shop as I had an appointment for first thing in the morning, I told the Shop owner that now the truck was not showing any symptoms He said well he could drive it around for hours at 145 bucks per hour till problem showed up or I could just bring it back when the problem showed up. I have driven it about 300 miles and I do hear sounds that don't normal but it only lasts for a few minutes if that long. Last week I heard a sound that sound like a siren at a long distance away actually I thought it was a cop a few blocks away, I rolled down the window and turns out sounded like it was coming from my truck it only lasted for about a minute. I guess I will just have to drive it till it finally gets to the point where I or a mechanic can find the problem, I want to take my 24' trailer camping this summer Don't really feel comfortable knowing that there is something wrong with my truck and break down out it the boonies. First time I feel like I can't trust my truck.
