I was driving at 70 mph with cruise on. Suddenly there was no power and check engine light. I pulled over and the truck was still running but would not take throttle. If you barely touched the pedal you could get up to 36 mph. I limped home and on restarting everything was back to normal except the check engine light stayed on for a few more starts.

I am thinking possibly a throttle position sensor. Can anybody give me some direction.

Thanks.

Like Bob says you need to dig a little deeper for codes. 1693 simply means a companion code was detected, doesnt tell you what it is. From what your describing it could be an APPS but that is just a guess at this point. If you can extract the other codes it will give alot more insight.

If you're using the key ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON to read the codes via the odometer you need to wait for the codes from both the ECM and PCM. You should see two done messages.

Good bet it's the APPS, possibly the ECM.

When you do get both sets of codes, there is a list of the OBDII codes in the sticky at the top of this forum section and in the 911 forum.

Thanks
It showed p 1693 only.
I will connect to a reader today to see if other codes show and will post again.
Thanks.

It has happened to me twice 2001 ram with easy chip and rv injectors 270 k miles. Code 1693 and 0257. Both times it went away. I had lack of turbo boost. I recall reading somewhere "turbo waste gate bar is stuck".

It has happened to me twice, 2001 ram with Easy chip and rv injectors, 270000 miles. Codes 1693 and 0257. I had very low turbo boost. I recall reading somewhere "turbo waste gate bar is stuck open". Both times it went away without a trip to the dealer.

Continued to act up this am. The code reader showed 1689 which is no communication between the ECM and fuel pump.

I removed the Van AAken as it is between the ECM and the VP44 and the problem has not occured over a few miles.

I hope the box is the problem [knock on wood] because, if not and with my luck it is a VP44 or ECM.

Otherwise, this is a great truck. I ordered it new in 2000 and have meticulously maintained it, 400,000 km.

I do not think it is the lift pump as i put in a fass 2 yrs ago but I do not have a gauge.

I already miss the Van Aaken and may have to settle with only the injectors.

You could very well be on the right track with the removal of the performance box. That is one possible reason for a 1689. another possibility is from excessive. Engine cranking.
May be time for a Smarty
Do yourself a big favor and invest in a fuel pressure gauge for the lift pump. Its a small investment and can save you big money on a vp. My lift pump is barely a year old and its sitting on the bench right now getting ready to be boxed up and returned to Air Dog for a warranty replacement. They do fail, luckily I caught it before I did any damage.
