Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Engine # Blocked By Chrysler

Hi all,

I had really figured this to be a trouble free year after replacing the VP44 in January.

I was driving into town, 30 miles, truck was stopped at light, pushed go pedal and it (engine) seemed to be surging, tach was at "0" but engine smoothed out, transmission shifted and I pulled over, shifted into park, stepped on go pedal, then tach started working, seemed OK on the way home, except for the C. E. L.

I cannot use the key trick to pull the code, so I could use some suggestions, please.

Thanks,

DC Miller

Cam/Crank position sensor (not sure which one the 98. 5's have)? That's what tells the computer at what point in the cycle the engine is at. Also drives the tach, too.

I believe the 98. 5's read from the Cam position sensor. I know my 01 reads from the crank and the first couple years of the 24 valve are the opposite. I'd get a second opinion, though.

Crank Position sensor, same exact thing happened to my 99 about 1. 5 years ago.

I changed it and never had a tach problem since.
