Loss of power under load

A friend has a 98 24 valve, when he has his camper on pulling a grade it acts like the truck is being lugged. It does this in 3rd. 4th. and 5th. even with the rpm's up. Any ideas on his problems.

I don't suppose he has any gauges?



We need more info.



OK, it's a 24 valve, does he have the 4:10 or 3:54 rear end? Oversized tires? 2WD or 4WD?



Is there a lot of black smoke when this happens? Could be a boost leak.



Has he checked for codes? Just because the check engine light is off, does not mean there are no codes. Autozone will check it for free.



How about fuel pressure? A weak VP44 and or LP would show a loss of power.



How much does the camper weigh?
