Yesterday-02/13 my check engine light came and I lost power like maybe 3 cylinders running. Truck is 2006 2500 4w- 90000 mi. Filled up with fresh fuel and drove to Dodge dealer. They said it might be injectors- harness- or computer. After hearing what it might cost I got back in truck, started engine, no check engine light and truck runs great! Trying to educate myself. Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks Rick

Go out to your truck, cycle the key on and off 3 times in a row and then leave the key in the on position. Write down what codes come up in the odometer and post them here. We will do our best to help you out.

Turned key on and off 3 times then on. No codes showed. Check engine light not on now. Runs great! Hiccup? Anything else I should check besides my bank acct?
Thanks for replies! 1st time user. Stock truck.

1st off, stay away from that dealer. Any technician worth their tools should never ASSUME. Why on earth should they immediately want to name off the 3 most costly parts on the engine.
Their first statement should have been, its $50.00 for a diagnostic check. Lets get it in have the tech hook up to it and see whats going on and we will advise from there.
More about the truck, any recent work done? Recent Maintenance? What brand of fuel filter is on it? How old are the cranking batteries? Any programmers or pressure modules on it?
Go ahead and buy a quart bottle of 2-stroke engine oil and after you are sure the filter is clean, dump the oil into a full tank of fuel.

What year of truck? Not all of them will show codes in the ODO window. Run by AutoZone or another parts store and buy some stuff and ask them to read and clear the codes. Post them back.

My last truck did the same thing, 06 Mega, had 110k on it. I was driving home, lost 3 cylinders, couldn't find any explanation. After doing some research I narrowed it down to either injectors or valve cover harness. Bought the harness but never got a chance to put it on before It was totaled, about 1k miles after that incident. One of my friends bought the truck totaled, repaired it, put the harness in, then withing 500mi had to do injectors. I dont recall the codes as this was 2 years ago and in that 1k mi from when it lost 3 cylinders to when it was totaled it ran great. Not what you want to hear but from all the research I did the technician did list off the 3 most likely issues, As others have said though the dealer has the tools to figure out the problem and not guess. Best of luck!

$90.00 for diagnostic check. No recent work done but-- 2weeks ago I put 6/10 gal of unleaded in truck. I then filled tank with 25 gal diesel & drove 260 mi with no increase of temp or hiccup. Don't know about fuel filter but will change now with Genos as soon as I get it, also 2 stroke oil. Batteries are stock from 06. Entire truck on amsoil since 10000 mi. 90000 now. Nothing done to truck except bypass filter- amsoil.
Thanks. RScott

How full was the diesel tank when you pumped 6-10 gallons of gasoline into it? Did you top off with diesel, did you add 2 stroke oil to that tank? This would be a major suspect for me.
