Uh oh!

Recon I am next? I have 97,200 miles and have started pulling 12,000 - 14,000 regularly, not necessarily heavy for the Cummins, but the New Venture... .

If you don't mind, keep us updated on what type of repair you do and how it holds up. I am kind of thinking about the full splined shaft, etc from US gear or Standard Transmissions when mine goes. Maybe a Southbend clutch at that time. Uh oh, is that the bombing bug biting me behind the ear? Stop that!:D :D I think I have a cure for it though... the wife and I are planning to build a new house! That ought to do it. :D

I'm just going to put the updated nut on for now. The Dodge dealer sure likes to rip me off, they charged me $62 after tax.

A better clutch would be a very good idea. My stock one broke, and I mean BROKE! The center part completely broke off and seperated from the outer disk. I tow anywhere from 6,000 pounds empty to 23,000 fully loaded.

Clutch failure

My bosses 99 did the same thing. The whole center of the clutch exploded. Guess what he pulls with his. You guessed it; a 3 car trailer!! Them things are HARD on a truck.

Hey wes, is that new nut the split nut with the 1\4 bolt in it? If it is, it is not the right fix, the earlier nut with no split is. My 99 gear box with 40,000 mi had that split nut and it was loose. Do the tdrammbr fix and you will be good. Very poor design on 5th gear. Good luck, I have part numbers if you need them. Tim
