I was just drive down the road at cruise speed she went it never made a sound or anything. It was just like you would have pushed the clutch in. Please correct me if im wrong but that problem comes from a nut backing off or is it more complex than that. If it is just that than it should fast and easy fix.

i havent had that happen yet, but the way you describe it it sounds like thats what happen. do a search in the fifth gear nut, im sure you will find some god info.

Duckslayer, TSB 21-10-98 Rev A deals with this problem. The OE output shaft is only half splined under the gear which allows it to move ever so slightly under load and eventially vibrate the nut off. I tried the new lock nut twice before I tack welded the 5th gear on. If and when it fails again (it has lasted 30K) I will probably get the new output shaft that is fully splined. DodgeRam. Good Luck, Jeff

Yeah, that is the fifth gear nut failure...

Dad's went at around 180k... he had the TSB done... currently at 250k... but he doesn't really "use" his truck either!

They replaced the gear in his truck too, but there was NOTHING wrong with it... I would suggest saving the $$ and getting just the updated nut.
