I was coming out of Laramie, WY the other day, pulling about 6000 pounds at 75 in 5th gear and "POP", there went 5th gear. Thanks to reading about others having this happen I just stuck it in 4th and checked the transmission for heat and leaks once in a while and drove the other 1000 miles home at 65. No problem. Took it to Hood River Dodge and when it was all said and done I was out about $200 labor and DC was out the $400 in parts and lube. I actually felt good about a trip to the dealership for once. I know some have gotten better deals on a fix but this was better than it could have been.

My truck only has 60000 miles and when I tow I am careful not to pull under 1800+ rpm in 5th. Maybe now if I want more than

60000 miles out of the fix I should raise the minimum in 5th to 2000 rpm.

:)
