While driving down the road today there was a bunch of bells ringing, lights coming on the dash and the speedometer, odometer, ABS brakes, cruise control, PacBrake all quit. The truck kept right on going. #@$%!

I called my service mgr. buddy and he said to go ahead and drive it but bring it in (I am 200 miles away) for repair. He suspects a sensor in the rear diff. that counts revolutions.

Glad now that I renewed my warranty. It was just 750 miles into the new warranty period. :)

That should be your vehilce speed sensor. It mite be the Abs sensor but I thought they had a sensor on each wheel.

Surprised it efected so many things.

I experienced the same thing on my '06 three or four times last Summer. Its really freakly when everything starts blinking and flashing, and then the lights and indicators go completly dead while the mighty Cummins just keeps pulling along.

I reached under the dash and traced and wiggled wire bundles and symptoms have not returned.

I wondered if it was just a loose connector to the cluster, as I have done a little foolin' under there with remote start and stereo installations, and thought maybe might have caused it myself.

I'll be interested in hearing what you figure out.

Heal thyself?????

Update... ... ... . while driving back to Anchorage today I required a pit stop at a sand box. I let the truck idle while there. When I came back to the truck the wipers were going at top speed and all of the lost functions were back. I drove another 80 miles to town w/o anymore problems and went to my service mgr. buddy. He still wants it in his shop tomorrow and let his electrical tech. have a look. In my driveway tonight I found the ground clamp on the right side battery was not tight.

Could that be it???? Will report back after tomorrow. Oo.

fixed

And the problem was... ... a loose ground terminal on the right side battery. It was tightened and the others checked and all is well on the RAM again. The dealer tech said all sensors coded loss of ground. $99 was the bill.

I am 1600 miles down the road in Canada headed for Arizona and the RAM has not missed a beat. :)

again!!!!!!

Next update... ..... after arriving in Az. we went to the store for grub. On the way the instrument panel went nuts again and as usual on Fri. afternoon. I drove it to the local dealer and on the way the odometer numbers disappeared and a message of "no bus" came up. Then the engine stumbled a little, then smoothed out. Then the no bus thing disappeared, numbers came back and I went to the dealer. That is where it is now (I have a rental car) and they found problems with a power module. It is on order.

Glad I renewed my warranty just before leaving home. Oo.

BCM bad

I have my truck back for several days with out any further problems. :)

The culprit was a failed BCM (body control module). It was replaced under my newly updated warranty.

Somehow at the dealer a big scrap of paint was taken off of my front bumper on the plastic part. They are going to repair (not replace) it for me.

Did they say Jack if there were any codes that pointed to the BCM being bad? I'm out of my warranty, so Mr. Smarty might have to help me out if something like this occurs.

Alaskan Cummins,

It did not show any codes and the dealer did not tell me they saw any but I would bet they did. When the odometer numbers disappeared and "no bus" showed I became worried as I still had my Smty Jr. in the computer. I was still able to remove it and put it back to stock before taking it in.
This all happened at 90k miles.

Tomorrow a little PM..... new serpentine belt and pulley as well as an oil change. Being in southern Az. and away from home I have to let someone else do it. I found a local repair shop that works on US Border Patrol Trucks and many are Ram diesels. These guys know what they are doing.

I'm guessing that thing would be expensive. Is that covered under the engine warranty (doubtful) or did you have the total truck extended warranty?

Good dealer

Truck back in today for the paint repair job on the bumper. This dealer really steps up to the plate. They refunded a $100 deductible and paid for $200 of RV park fees for a botched repair and now the paint repair.

There are some good ones left. Henry Brown Chrysler in Casa Grande, Az.

Does that BCM go by another name? Body Control Module is not mentioned any where in my FSM. I have a bad radio ground now and I can't find it. I'm wondering if the "BCM" is the whole problem.

Tinman... ... ...

They called it a body control module as did the service mgr. in Anchorage.

I believe it controls all things electrical between the cab and the ECM. So far it has solved the problem.

I did have a total truck warranty extension with a $200 deductible.
