I lost my keys today and of course that was my only fob. I do have a spare key (no fob) at home so i had a buddy bring me home and left my truck at work. Here is my question, can i start my truck with only the key? Also i thought i read there was a way to turn off the alarm by cycling the key is that true?

thanks for your help

Dan

If I remember correctly if you unlock the door from the outside with the key it should work. There is a switch on the back of the lock cylinder and when you turn the key it turns the alarm off.

Wow hope your right. If it doesn't work not sure what i am ging to do. I can get it towed but it's on the third floor of a parking garage. Or option two call a certified locksmith. Anyone know what that will cost?

If the non fob key is chipped it will work. Lost mine early on and had to get dealer to make new key and program, about $239. 00 for the key with fob, bought one off e-bay chipped with no fob for about $20. 00 and programmed it myself (you have to have two working keys to be able to program) I paid a locksmith $10. 00 to cut the new kew. There are probably other avenues of getting out of the jam, Walmart has chipped keys now but I don't know what they charge for them. bg

If the OP's spare key is an ordinary spare key like one from Wal-Mart the truck will start and immediately shut down. No way around it that I am aware of.

A dealer should be able to cut and program keys with VIN available but he may require the truck and owner present to prove ownership. Otherwise I could read a VIN off any Dodge in a parking lot and have keys made at any dealer. I'm not sure, have never had it done.

Yeah, you're right. I glanced down at the signature line on an earlier post and thought I saw '06. Don't know if it was old eyes or advancing senility that made me think '06.

Well got to work to day with my spare key and... ... it worked. Alarm turned off truck started right up. I guess sometimes it pays to have an older truck. I lost alot of sleep last night trying to figure out what to do if it didn't work. Now i have to get a couple fobs and have them programed or just make a few spare keys and go old school for a while. Thanks for the support guys.

Try ekeylessremotes.com. They have new ones for 34. 99 right now. I bought one from them about a year and a half ago. It seems to be identical to the original not a Chinese knock off. Says TRW on the back as well as made in Canada. You con program them yourself but if you want 2 of them you need both available when yo do it. They seem to be a good company to deal with, I bought a remote and an early chipped key for a Lumina and the remote was fine but they sent the wrong style key. I called them the day it arrived and was told a new one would go out and to send the wrong one back afterwards. The next day the correct key showed up with FedEx along with a prepaid shipping package to return the wrong one. Seems to be getting harder to find companies that care about the customers like that lately.
