lost neutral - electrical outlet

I have one 120v outlet in my TT that does not work. I pulled it out and disassembled the receptacle and the neutral is lost. I get 120v hot to ground, but hot to neutral I get about ~70v.



this is the only plug that's acting up and of course there is only about 3 inches of wiring viewable. and I can't see any junction box, etc. that might supply this run.



any suggestions ? I'm going to try to get a wiring diagram from the manufacturer tommorrow.

The fact that you are reading 70 V on the rec tells me there is something else up stream from your rec. It could be anything, but that is probably were the problem lies. Can you identify the circuit at the panel? Check it's neutral.

my TT is a Nomad by Skyline. I called their CA office this morning asking for wiring info. I recieved a very nice return call helping me to understand where the wiring runs to help with the debug of this pb.

Outlet Junction

The wiring is probably daisy chained from one outlet to the next. You must have a broken/loose connection at another outlet or light socket. I am sure the diagram information they gave you will help to find the closest connections to the problem outlet.

yep, they are daisy chained (in series) but NO, not the nearest. hard to believe but of the three outlets wired in series the wiring went from the primary outlet to the furthest away then back to the non-functioning one.

it was in fact just that the neutral wire from the second outlet to the last one had slipped out of the push in connector.

total cost of r/r 2 beers and 1 bowl of peanuts... I'm also a hero as the missus now has her reading light again...

AHHHH!!! push in connections! Don't use them. Spend the time and use the scews on the side. Better yet ditch the $. 39 apice firestarters that they sell at the home centers and get some $3. 00 real SPEC grade outlets. They don't even come with the "quickwire" connections. The internal connections on spec grade are screw down with pressure plates.
