Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Lost Prime

Losing prime. Changed filter, still loses prime. I noticed when I park facing downhill I don't lose prime! I'm thinking the valve on the injector pump, the one on the return fuel line may be going south. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Any pinhole leak can let air in and cause you to lose prime. I would check all the lines for leaks first.

could this be a cracked rubber return like like the 12v'er have to deal with?

I agree, you got a pinhole leak between the L/p and the fuel tank

does anyone know how long the return line is inside the tank.

Does it drop directly into the tank or does it extend toward the bottom of the tank?

You are probably siphoning back into the tank, why?



check valve on vp?

allowing fuel to be sucked back through the fuel filter and lp.





If you have a hole between lp and tank I don't see it siphoning from the fuel filter back into the tank unless its going through the vp first.



most trucks will start if there is fuel in the fuel filter canister, are you saying it is dry or nearly so?

I had the same problem, I was parking with the motor down for a few days until I figured it out. I traced it down by running the lift pump and looking for leaks, it was leaking around the nut that you tighten on top of the fuel filter in the center.

It was one of the o-rings causing the leak, the small one you replace on the shaft in the canister. I changed the filter and o-ring and haven't had a problem since.

What year is your truck? I know that these filters/canisters are different on some trucks. Mine is a 98. 5
