Hi all,

I need help please. I just changed my fuel filter on my 99 2500 diesel. I finally got it to start but the RPM's immediately go to about 1800 and stays there after you start it. It's running smooth but the RPM's won't come back to idle. This happened the last time I changed the filter also. At that time I disconnected the batteries and then reconnected and it cleared up. That must have been a coincidence because its not working this time. I'm very frustrated, I even prefilled the canister with fuel and everything. It was running fine before I changed the filter. Please any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Vince H

Hi Extreme1,

I did leave them disconnected for 30 minutes but it didn't work. Anyhow, after I got your reply I tried it again. This time the RPMs were stuck at 1300 so I tried it a third time and they finally returned to normal. I'm not sure what the reson was but it seems fixed now. Thank You for your reply and your suggestion.

Thanks

Possibily a problem with the apps sensor. Try disconnecting it and reconnecting it, see if it has a good contact. It might be seeing the loud pedal depressed. BTW, the floor mat is not resting on the gas?

Hi Gilbert,

Thanks for the reply. No I didn't check the APPS sensor. Can you tell me where it is located? The throttle is working fine now or at least until the next fuel filter change. That is the only time it acts up is after I change the filter. No the floor mat is now interfearing with the pedal . I would like to know how to prevent the situation from reoccuring. That high rpm cold start after a filter change can't be good for the engine.

Thanks Vince
