New Truck Need Advice

Well, it finally happened to me.

I heard of you guys losing your mufflers and I figured "it won't happen to me", but sure enough, the "Muffler Bandit" payed a visit to my truck. He left the resonator in and a piece of 3" flex pipe where the muffler used to be. Boy was I ticked! :D That is until I started it up. Man, these 24 valve trucks sound SWEET with only the resonator in!! :D It has a nice low mellow sound to it. It also lower my EGT's about 100 degrees running empty down the highway. The turbo seems to spool a little quicker also. Cab noise only went up very slightly cruising down the higway and up a bit more when pushing hard on the loud pedal. Just for the record, if you can't find a 3-4 reducer, you can cut out the one used in the foward side of the stock muffler. Takes a little work, but it can be done. For those of you that have not had a visit from the "Muffler Bandit", give a try, you just might like it! :D

My truck got a visit from the muffler fairy a few

months ago. One of the best things to happen to

my truck! I love the sound! Dodge should sell

them just like this! The resonator is plenty of

muffling IMHO. :D

Boy did you guys get off easy, both the muffler and resonator dissapeared off my truck!!

And to show how well insulated the trucks are (or how noisy they are), the wife never knew they dissappeared.

For sound clips see My web page

Cool site Rballard!

I agree, a straight-piped Cummins

sounds awesome! Cool video clips!

Here's mine. :D

*off topic*

I love that grille guard. I've been

contemplating whether to get a full

replacement type bumper/guard or the

lighter grille guard. I like the protection

of a full replacement, especially when it

comes to the possibility of hitting a deer

and the damage I've seen done to our

Rams. But the Stull just looks sweet.

Think thats bad. . I ripped mine off, I must have highcentered over that last ridge I crawled over. Thank goodness its a Dodge & it was able to heal itself. .

Sure does sound good w/ just the resonator. Just a little louder than we like, but the performance increase makes it almost worth it.

Was hoping for 100 degree drop in egt, but after a good towing trip, about 1k miles, only see about maybe 50 degree drop at the high end. Not much, but significant.

The big thing is it spools quicker, maybe 2/3 the time as it did before when driving normal. Also seeing about 1/2 mpg increase, & feels like it has a tailwind while cruising at 65-70. Max boost is up from 28 to 32 now, which is directly related to power.

Now, considering going back to the hills, maybe I can get rid of that resonator, & try a Rhino 911 muffler, but would hate to lose the performance. Might just have to protect the bottom side for awhile. CYOA :p

The muffler bandit struck me too:{ :-{} :-{} :-{} It was the best thing I ever did. It is nothing but a straight 3" pipe from the elbow (no muffler, no resinator). It is noticable louder and I love to drive though tunnels. I have had at least a 75 degree:rolleyes: drop in EGT's. The turbo spools much faster. For $30 in parts from NAPA, this was the most effective upgrade para el dinero. I absolutely love the sound and remember, a turbo is a muffling device.

OK OK OK!!!!!!!

You guys went and did it! You got me all jacked up

reading this and I just got off the phone with my

muffler surgeon and I,m going in tommorrow morning

to have the muff removed. I can't believe I'm gonna

do this! I hope your all proud of your selves for being

such a BAD influence:D

Muffler

William,

OH YEA, we are proud alright!! :D

"You all are teaching me wonderfull things... . my wife hates this", wait till she hears your truck with no muffler!!:--)

Seriously, I bet you will love it!

Jim

It'll be worth it. Gives ya a chance to see how restrictive that thing really is. If its too loud, just pull the resonator & mount a Rhino, or whatever brand you like. The only bummer about it is its a little louder in the cab at about 1900-2200 rpms. Sure runs happier though.

IT'S GONE !

Well at 9:30 am the operation went well... didn't hurt a bit. Only drove around a little while. The sound was only slightly louder in the lower tones and a slight increase in the cab with the windows rolled up. But I must say it's much quieter than I thought it would be! I did notice the increase in performance now I'll check my fuel milage.

Jim... . your right... . I did this while the wife is gone on a bizz trip. Now I'll see if she mentions anything about it... I'll bet she won't even notice!

I like it:cool:

The in-cab noise goes way down if you put a 'turn down' on the end. You can lower it even more by routing it straight out the back. :D

I had mine removed yesterday. Best $42. 38 I ever spent. Left the resonator in and hardly noticed any extra noise in the cab 'till about 1800 - 2200RPM.

I had read earlier posts comparing the benefits of the 4" -vs- opening up the stock system. I figure that soon enough I'll remove what I have left and go for the 4 inches but for now, I'm happy.

William,

My wife did not notice until I pointed it out  but she is OK with it...

Glad you like the sound of your truck!

MIA muffler

The muffler bandit really got mine, he took from the downpipe back! It now has a 4" stack in the right front corner of the bed. It Is louder in the cab. I love it but the wife hates it. The turbo really whines now, and the engine really growls @2000-2500 WOT:) I am suprised it hasn't gotten me in trouble W/ the law

I liked the sound of mine with just the resonator better than the sound of the 4" exhaust. It was awesome pulling a load uphill. 4" does help with the egt's.
