Ok guys I checked with two dealers here in northern Ca. for new TPS and have been informed that it does not exsist. Harness goes from computer directly to the injection pump. Any new Ideas? 99 2500 diesel, 111k, stock, auto, 4wd extcab. (new injector pump $2,800. 00) ouch! Still afraid to travel Steve.....

Get a hold of Piers, and you should be able to pay an easy half of that for a new VP44. I just replaced my '44 at Muncie, I got it from Piers (Thanks Piers)(Who would have guessed that Piers would have two VP44's in stock in the bed of his Pickup)

I'm calling a bad APPS (TPS) (Again, see if you can get a warrenty on the item)

New Name > APPS = Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor

Old Name > TPS = Throttle Position Sensor

My truck had same symptoms and a TPS solved the problem.

Hope ya get your truck fixed

the apps does exsist

my records show a Dodge part #53031575-AF for the Apps.

Price was $310. 0 Call a different stealer or a Cummins dealer

You can try to recal the APPS. Disconnect the batts and leave them that way for about an hour. . or overnight if you can. Then in the am hook them back up and turn the key on till the dash ligts up. Then slowly push the peddle to the floor and let it back up easy, then start the truck. That should recal the APPS.

I really doubt it will help since it sounds like yours is bad. If somone could post the part # for you you could get the Dodge dealer to order it for you.

you can try what JR2 suggested but I don't think it will work. Find an independnt shop, someone you trust and have the truck scanned. If your going to throw a few hundred dollars @ your truck, I'd spend a few to verify it's the APPS. Then if it is, call Cummins. Sounds like the parts guys @ the stealer are just plain dumb

finding throttle

OK guys I am paying better attention now. So today I will tally forth and hit em with some new knowlege and see whassup. Thanks again for not giving up on me... . Steve(maybe going fishing)in Calif.

Hey Guys: Finally got a Scan (p0121) leaving with shop for two days and going fishing anyway. Priced a new apps from stealer $407. 00 found used one for $275. 00 but probably not a good idea. No luck with local cummins dealer. They claim they do not stock parts for that engine. Oh well we cant take it with us... . later Steve

The APPS is a dealer only item. As are several other things that would really steam you if I told you about them.

Enjoy the fishing and I hope your truck is better when you get back.

Fishing trip cancelled! (High wind and swell warnings on Pacific ocean just n/o S. F. ) anyway my Mechanic was too busy to do any more than pull the code. (P0121=TPS circuit A problem) Went to dealer and bit the bullet $438. 00 out the door. Will recieve part on Monday. Last wed AM was the last time I had the throttle loss, When I got home ck eng light was still on and I remembered something I read in some forum archive about holding down trip meter and turning ignition switch on & off numerous times to reset ecm. So I began and nothing happened after about ten trys. The next time I tryed it (I think I must have done it about fifteen times) all of a sudden all my guages pegged out and I let off of trip button and guages went down and their was a little green arrow floating around in the trip window and then it went to oo. Ck Eng light went off so I shut off key and started truck. I have put on about 300mi and have not had a problem since but I will probably still replace APPS when it comes in. Anybody else know what I did with this on-off switch trick? Steve

Uh Oh! Sunday PM it happened again three times. New APPS comes in tommorow. If I replace it myself will ECM see it and take care of business on its own? Anybody? Steve

Hey guys: Received new APPS (Dumbmier call it a "Lever" according to the part #)Sensor is attached to it with two screws. I replaced entire assembly and am in a wait and see mode. (so far so good) just dont understand why it is a sealed unit? Anyway will let You all know if this did the trick and thanks again for all the fast response from you all. Steve
