Help someone! while driving all throttle response quits and engine goes to a smooth 800rpm idle. after about 10 seconds throttle response comes back. If in cruise control mode throttle goes to max with same effect. Anyone ever figure this one out? This has occoured approx 7 times in the last month. each time ck eng light comes on then goes out after about an hr. Steve (afraid to go anywhere) in Calif. 1999 ram 2500 cummins 111k

sounds like either a bad connecttion @ the APPS or a bad APPS. Even though your MIL has gone out there will still be a code stored, unless the batteries have been disconnected. If it was my truck, I'd have it scaned since you can't pull the codes on a '99 without one. You could try cleaning the connections with contact cleaner and useing dielectric greese, But I'd guess that with 111k on the APPS (potentiometer) you will have to replace it. There are no adjustments that can be made to it and it's a sealed unit.

I had the same thing happen to my 2001, the Apps (tps) was the problem. Have you tried to clean and adjust the sensor?
thx for reply Dave. I am looking at my chilton book and it is not very clear for diesel's on where TPS is located. Is it under black plastic cover on the injector pump and throttle mechanisms? Steve

thx dean I really appreciate this from you and dave as it will probably save me a lot of that high dollar troubleshoot time in the shop. I forgot to say that they did pull code for me and it did point to that area according to the wrencher but he did not have time to do anything. Any idea how much for new tps?
