Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) lots of smoke and popping noise in exhaust

A couple days ago I noticed my truck was smoking more than normal and under full throttle acceleration I would get a popping noise in the exhaust. I don't know how else to describe it. It wasn't normal. Yesterday I changed the oil and fuel filters and the engine oil, which was a little low. This morning I unplugged the EZ and the popping noise went away and the smoke wasn't as bad, but still more than normal. Has anyone ever had an Edeg EZ go bad, or any other module for that matter? Or is it one of my injectors? I run the RV 275s. I put the RV 275's and the EZ in at the same time 5 years ago. It seems to have lost power in the last few months too. Any suggestions?

The first step should be to check fuel pressure/flow volume. The injectors can be tested on the car somewhat by cracking the lines one by one and noting the drop for each cylinder. All electronics will fail at some point... ... . so yes you can see a failed box.

it idles good and cruising at 70mph it runs fine no popping. Fuel pressure is good about 13psi. Just when you mash the pedal to the floor it makes noise. Even half throttle it doesn't make noise.

I did have an EZ on my 01 go bad. In park the truck had a crazy idle (like someone was mashing the thottle very quickly and it was belching smoke) when i dropped it into drive it would die. unpluggeg the EZ ang the problem went away. Edge did warranty it and I do still have and its For Sale. Hope this may help.

I'm hoping either I got a bad tank of diesel and that's what's causing the smoke or the EZ took a crap. No EZ, means not as much fun, but it's better than a cracked injector. The oil looks good, and it's not making oil.
