While I see lots of 2-3 hundred dollar air horns, is there anybody who has found a LOUD electric horn?

db ratings are not so clear as it seems different horns are "graded" at different distances... . is there a standard?

Mike... .

I have Hella Horns purchased from www.griotsgarage.com

Kinda spendy at $70. 00, but they are very well made. Kept my stock horns hooked up too. Be aware... . they have a "European" sound... think BMW, Mercedes... . not big rig truck sound. They are rated at 118db, but I think these db rating claims are suspect, since there doesn't seem to be a clear standard. They are considerably louder than stock and do get attention.

If you want a LOUD electric horn get one off an old six volt car. I used one on my fish boat for years until the rust finally did it in. 12 volts does not seem to hurt it. Sure is loud!

Just go to Harbor Frieght or some other cheepo outfit and spend 15-20 bucks for a double air horn. They are loud but more alpine than 18 wheeler.

I needed one for an irrigation pump alarm. Went to the junkyard and asked for the loudest one. For ten bucks the guy gave me one that will cause hearing damage if you are closer than twenty feet. Have no idea what it came from but the writing on it appears to be Russian. It draws 40 amps!

Luckily it has it's own battery, solar charged, and the horn is mounted on a 20 foot pole. When I first got it went to test it with a 20 amp battery charger, it just buzzed and zapped the charger's amp meter. I thought I got ripped off. It wasn't till I connected it to a battery that it worked, sort of wished it didn't since I was only two feet away. Works great for an alarm, you can hear it from two miles ...

That thing would cause a heart attack for someone walking in front of the vehicle!:D At the very they would be standing in a puddle after it went off. The six volt Chevy horn I had on my boat was bad enuff. When I would blow it to call the water taxi in Trinidad all the sea gulls would take off. It looked like someone had bounced the bay:D:D

I've used "Caddy-Blasters" on several of my Chevy trucks in the past. I go to a junkyards and take off a 4-horn set from an early 70's Eldorado. They just bolt right on (and off) and are pretty loud.

Once I was driving down Wilshire Blvd, in L. A. , and 3 homeless bums were pushing a shopping cart across an intersection against the light. They were in my lane, in their own drunken world, and I waited until I was about 3-4 car lengths from them and blasted them. Boy did they scatter fast!

My 1985 Chebby 3/4 ton Suburbon had incredibly loud stock electric horns. Tru story - I sheet you not :D

I had been having fun blasting my friends with them (nice guy eh?) and one day beeped as I was passing a deaf coworker. He didn't hear the horns, but they were so loud he felt them and turned around...

"Caddy blasters" are always good. The loudest stock horns I remember are the '63 Buick Riviera. They sounded like a Sante Fe Super Chief coming through.
