Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Loud Engine noise

I like the sound of my diesel as much as the next guy on this site, however I have to shut off my truck every time I go through a drive-thru or anything where I have to communicate with someone outside the truck. I am running normal exhaust, the loudness isn't coming from the tailpipe, rather the engine compartment. Is there anything to cut down on the engine noise or any additive that people have used?

I can tell the noise is a little less with Stanadyne in the tank, but not nearly enough less to help you at a drive-through.

Buy a new common rail Cummins or turn it off. I turn mine off for the guy ahead of me at Burger King also! When I went to DTT, the border guy said thanks when I pulled up and shut it off. Then he wanted to talk about my SNOKING license plate and hear the story behind it. You know "Snow King" would not fit, I find the good snow when snowmobiling etc. SNOKING
