Anybody truely figured out the PINGING issue with the late 5.9's?

Wastegate/Smarty question.

Driving on the highway at 65 mph and heard a loud pop coming from the left side of the engine compartment. Truck still ran but it seemed to have lost power. Also the Edge gauges should low boost. Any suggestions would be helpful. Is it safe to drive or not?

Check the intercooler to intake horn hose on the drivers side front of engine compartment... it might have blown off or split, which would explain both the pop and the loss of power and the edge low boost reading.

While there you can also check the boost hoses from the turbo to the intercooler on the passengers side of the engine compartment.

There is no harm in running with a leak in the pressure side of the system. Power will be down, but there is no chance of dirt ingestion as the system is always under pressure.

Checked tubes and hoses and everything looks normal. At what boost shouls a stock turbo be running when driving 65 mph?

Have a funny story about the POP where I worked we had a driver that was VERY accident prone. She had the hose on WHAT EVER side of the turbo blow off it caused power loss and TREMNDOUES amount of black smoke and She didn't see it but the Pyro just about bent the gauge pointer. At our safety meeting She proudly stood up and told her story about how great a job she did at saving the truck from sure disaster. She went on to talk about the LOUD !! POP !! and that is when SHE knew something had gone wrong. I started to giggle and the safety guy said you have something to share BIG??? He insisted so my comment was that the LOUD !! POP !! SHE HAD EXPERIANCED WAS WHEN HER HEAD, NECK , AND SHOULDERS CAME OUT OF HER A** The big boss ( a good friend ) had to do something so he gave me the next 2 days off (he knew they were my regular days off anyway) :-laf
