Hello,

It's been a while since I've visited the Forums but had a quick question. I have recently been hearing a LOUD pop from somewhere down the exhaust (it appears) after the engine starts coolong down. I have never heard this before, so was wondering if it might indicate something loose, cracked, etc? I have occasionally heard much quieter pops but never any this loud.

Thanks in advance.

Nevinst, its your exhaust manifold and turbo housing stress cracking from extremely high exhaust gas temperatures that you are obviously seeing. You'll probably need new ones in a short time. I'd recommend an ATS manifold and a twin turbo setup along with 5" exhaust to reduce this problem in the future... .

Just kidding of course :) Mine does this all the time during cool down idleing and after I shut the truck off. I think its the exhaust pipe doing this on mine. Mine sounds like its coming from in the middle of the truck area. Sometimes it sounds like someone is under there hitting the pipe with a wrench or something.

As a note, mine will usually make one "clank" and thats it. I've never heard it do it twice at any time.

Mine just started it too... . Just wait untill you climb underneath to change oil and it does it. If you don't rub your nose on it on the way under you will hit the pipe when it pops. It like to scared me to death... ... Now I know that it does it and is just second nature to me.
