I had an intriguing boost problem this weekend. I usually get 21 lbs with no problems. While towing this weekend, I'd get 21 lbs getting on the freeway in 4 and 5th. I would also be able to pull 21 lbs in 5th passing, but when I was cruising in 6th (1700-1900rpm) and would roll on the throttle the boost would stop at 16 lbs. I haven't read about anything like this yet and was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

Jeff,

My guess is it was the RPM that kept you from maxing out. It does take rpm to generate boost, hence turbo lag. At 1700 - 1900 I would expect you are not generating enough exhaust pressure to spin the turbo to max boost. Mine does the same thing.

If I'm wrong, I'll be corrected. #ad

I agree with David TD. You will probably need to spin it up a little more to generate 21 pounds. Speaking of generating boost, I heard you did pretty good at the drags this weekend, David.

Well, I run mine at that RPM range all day long at highway speeds here in the 55 MPH state, and that is pushing it toward 10 MPH over posted speeds. I agree that there is times that you will be lugging the motor at those RPM's with a load on, but I don't think you can make the statement that it is alway lugging in that RPM range. If so, I better put a lock out on 6th, I don't think I will be needing it!!!!

My boost psi dropped from a max of 26# to a max of 10#, and now max's at 9 #. Do I perhaps have a leak in the intercooler
(the only place that I haven't been able to check), or is the gauge bad? Why would the gauge go bad? BTY, there's no change in performance. ??? My Max EGT's,post-turbo, at W. O. T. , towing my 6k trailer uphill : only 800 degrees.

You're not lugging the engine at the torque peak. Lugging is full power applied for long duration below the torque peak.
