I was just wondering if anyone knew how much fuel is left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on. I was just curious as to how many gallons are left and the tank and how much further you could go without running out of diesel.

Thanks

Cody

Cody,

According to the owners manual my 92 holds 30 US gallons of fuel and the low fuel light comes on when the fuel level reaches approximately 1/6 of a tank.

My '02 holds 34 gallons. Light comes on with 12 gallons still in the tank. Dealer says that it's correct - plenty of notice I guess...

The best thing to do is fill up the tank, run till the light comes on, then fill up ASAP and note how much you put in the truck. Subtract from the 30 it holds, and then you'll know for sure...

Hey Cody!:)

I checked the service manual but it doesn't mention the "low fuel" light.

"AIK" seems that have the answer!

Mine seems to come on closer to having 6 gallons remaining in the tank than 5 gallons though.

KEENO :D

I was wondering the same thing so I checked mine the other day and it was a little over 10 gallons left after the light came on.

Right... . first gens have 30 gallon tank. The most I have put in is a little over 26 gallons. Should be approx 5 gallons left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on...

It is my understanding that they are set for 20% which works out to be 6 gallons on the 30 gal. or 6. 8 on 34 gal tank.

Don't be a dumbass like me my light came on and I kept driving thinking that I had plenty becuase like everyone else I hardly ever put more than 22 or 23 gal in even after the light comes on. So the light comes on at 350mi and I keep driving I figured I would be conservative and fill up at 450mi... . WELL... ... at 433 it DIED!!!!! How embarassing is that! I get 5 gal of fuel let my brother crank it and I cracked each injector line and after about 30 secs it fired back up. BOY did I hate that. Trust me that will be the last time I do that now when I go somewhere I go from station to station.

Do some '92s come with a 25-gallon fuel tank? When the needle is on the "E" I can only put in about 24 gallons. This has only happened twice, I usually keep the top half full. When I bought paint from the stealer to paint my gauge pod I gave them my vin # to mach the paint, they told me that I have a 25 gallon tank.

Mine is about the same as Keenos and some of the others -6 gallons is about what is left after the light turns on. I rarely run it that low, will usually take it to around a quarter tank and then refill. Don't want to go thru the bleeding B. S.

I would just like to say thanks to all the guys who have posted. I have got a general idea now.

Old Smoky-

I got the same list from the dealer when I went to get the code for the paint. My list says that I have a 24 gallon tank. I am not sure if the list they gave me is accurate so I will check the sticker that came off the truck in 91 in the morning. I am not sure how big of tank I have, but all I know is that I can go 400 miles before my low fuel light comes on. I will check the window sticker from the truck in the morning and get back with you.
