Ok I would like to know why I am not getting better mileage,I am only getting 14 to 15 on the highway at 65 to 70 mph. I have 15,000 miles. I also notice that when I use a low c-tane I get better mileage. My friends tell me it will get better when I get more miles on it. I seem to think it might have something to do with the auto transmission in my truck like it needs more gears... .

is that your mpg averaged out or does your computer actually show it that low if you reset it to show instantaneous mileage. You should do better than that for instantaneous mileage, but if you are averaging it out over the tank it doesn't take much idle time or city driving to bring yopur average down.

I leave my computer set for compass so i dont get depressed over my constant readout of 12mpg. I dont do much highway driving this time of year, and i cant seem to keep my foot out of it enough to get beter mileage. My 4. 10s don't help either.

This mileage thing has really popped up a lot lately. I have never gotten below a 14 mpg average in my truck. That was when I was driving 80 mph into a strong head wind. My average is 16-17 around town. Maybe it is the way I drive or the manual trans but my overhead has been very accurate (within . 2 mpg) and I do a lot of around town driving. Maybe the 2004 computer is more accurate??

I notice in your signature you've got some accessories that could seriously cut down on your fuel economy:

-Roof Rack

-Aluminum flow-through tailgate

In my opinion, if you remove these items you may see a couple more MPG.

MILEAGE

Can't tell you what to do to fix your truck, But can tell you that a 4X2 does better than a 4X4 cause we have the same truck except i have the 4X2 Long Bed, HO 305 , Automatic , Non Slip , 373 Rear end. . I have 4100 miles on it and i figured the mileage today in long hand, not the computer in the truck. . I averaged 18. 6 MPG. I do fill up at the truck stops when i can and i try to get NO2 fuel when i can. I don't use additives as a rule. when i was doing a lot of duck hunting in 14 degree weather i did put in a little Additive , just to be safe out in the boom docks... I did pull a boat some this fall but very little , other than that I have 500 lbs of lead in the rear end to help with the ride and traction... Good Luck, OH, I live in Kansas, and we haven't had a lot of real cold weather, Winterized Fuel doesn't have the BTU's that No @ fuel has so less Mileage... . Crappie Cop:::::)

Do a search like I did . I also posted about my truck 13 city 14 Highway

2004 srw 48re auto 3. 73 rear Quad short bed .

I know I should get 15 city 17-19 highway . I haven't found a fix yet for better mpg . I think what one guy said is true "some do and some don't get good mpg".

better mpg

I just checked mpg ,went 150 miles with 7. 8 gallons . I would say somewhere around 18-19 mpg empty 65-70 mph. I have almost 5k on the truck best mpg so far . Maybe it's starting to get better.

Steve

When driving straight highway I am logging 18 - 19MPG. Around town I am logging 16. 7 and I only have around 2k on my new motor. Forget the overhead..... how many miles are you getting per tank?

Fuel Mileage dropping

in my post above i averaged 18. 6 mpg , i now am at 6100 miles and i averaged 18. 46... ... Were off the blended fuel now so i look for that to pick up... I also dumped about 600 lbs of Lead and Cinder Blocks out of the back end for Snow traction. My driving habits haven't changed, i will be pulling 2000 lbs of Boat and trailer Walleye Fishing in another week so we'll see where the fuel goes. . We are $1. 69 for Diesel here in North central kansas...
