A friend of mine has a 98 24v dually that he pulls a 12 ft motorcycle enclosed trailer with that hauls 4wheelers and dirt bikes, so max weight is 2500lbs when full, anyway the vp 44 pump went bad and quit running a couple months ago and he bought a remanufactued pump off a guy that sells them on Ebay, so he also bought a new lift pump too at the same time, so I installed the vp44 and lift pump so we started up the truck and instantly the check engine lite comes on and it reads PO 602 code which is ecm calibration programing , so I had another ecm from a parts engine that I had that came off same year truck and it comes up with the same po602 #s , now the bad part is this truck wont pull worth that good at all! it doesnt smoke and seems to run ok but when you hit hills it just pulls down easy, before the vp 44 went out it ran great and strong! hes got a programable super chip on it right now too but its vin locked so on this computer I lent him he couldnt program it for towing! so we checked the waste gate and boost psi and it boost to 18 psi which i think is Normal?? anyone know what else might cos this problem? ps I also changed boost sender too with still no luck!

How confident are you about the guy that sold the pump? Is the key in the pump the correct one? Have you checked the fuel pressure, before and after the fuel filter, and at the vp-44?

Yes checked it before with old transfer and it was 15 at idle and 12 at wot, and new one is close to the same so I know the transfer is OK, as far as ebay theres a few guys who sell them rebuilt on there for like 1k so I guess thats why he bought it? guy had good feedback, I wonder if the electrics in that pump are anygood? as soon as we put it on po 602 came up, the pump guy said to have the computer reflashed at the dealer? would this be necessary??

For $1000 you can buy a vp44 from II or MWFI or others. I just bought one from MWFI last August for $1200 and that included free shipping and a new lift pump plus it has a warranty. eBay for a vp44 is a bad idea IMO.

I got mine from MWFI for 1046, free shipping and no core charge if you return the old one in 30 days. Again, why would anyone buy one from ebay? SNOKING

well returned the rebuilt vp 44 pump back to the guy on ebay and got another rebuilt one in exchange, installed it and still has same problem with NO Torque on hills, this time no codes though!!!, Im stumped on whats wrong with this truck

Definitely agree - the VP44 is far too complex of a pump to buy from anyone other than an authorized Bosch shop that adheres to their standards.

Yup. Send pump #2 back and get your money. Make sure you keep YOUR core.

Go to a KNOWN REPUTABLE outfit like has been suggested. Got mine at TST and KNOW they source from a CERTIFIED Bosch remanufacturer. It has a one year warranty, just in case. NO problems, and if I did have, Mark would most certainly take care of it.
