Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Timing has Changed?

I finally got to haul something this weekend,a 2horse trailer with only one horse in it. I have kind of noticed a little slugish any time i go up hill or in 5th gear but thought the same with my other 92 till i put a k&n filter that made it alot more peppy. I think it has maybe the orignal fuel filter on it, it says chrysler on it. Also the orignal pumps, injector and fuel, on it. I am planing on replacing fuel filter this weekend then fuel pump along with electric fuel gauge and boost and exhaust temp gauges just dont have money to do it all at once. Dont know anything about wastegates other than what ive looked up here. Sorry if i jump around just trying to give as much inf as posible. Also this truck has 4. 10 rear end and dont notice it as much in lower gears. It also havent noticed any smoke when i put the pedal down hard. When i was pulling the trailer it felt like about half of the pedal did nothing in 5th gear, couldnt get it over 55. Thankx everyone.

If you live in a dusty area, stay away from K&N. The stock box is a bigger problem than the actual filter. I wouldn't mess with the waist gate. You will increase boost, but the boosted air will be very hot. A fuel plate would do wonders. My plate came with a boost elbo to increase boost. A new fuel filter is aways a good idea. Gauges are a must. You might want to check your fuel return line. A small pin hole will cause it to suck air. When mine went bad, I had low power. It took me months to figure the problem out. Good luck.

I got the filter and pre filter changed and its better still not getting any smoke when u put it to the floor. It seems like if u let off a little it picks up a bit. Also does anybody know where to get a rebuild kit for nv4500 hd. Thankx

I would go Standard Transmission for the transmission parts.

Ditch the K&N. Go back with a good paper filter. It's plenty of air for up to @ 400HP.

Get you at least a boost gauge and a pyro. They're a must, especially if you're adding power.

Change the fuel filter. I wouldn't change the lift pump. They're hard to kill and it will deliver plenty of fuel. Search here for a post by "JoeG" to test the fuel system for leaks. Joe is the 12V fuel system expert.

Leave the wastegate alone. If you want a little more power you can slide your stock fuel plate forward for a cheap, reversable, pick me up. Go to TST's website and find their fuel plate installation instructions. They will tell you how to get to the plate. Mark it good with a scribe where it's at now so you can put it back if you want. I would start off sliding it @ 1/2 way to full forward. If you have a stock clutch, it won't last long with a lot more than stock power.

Things I've learned about low power on a 12v.

1. Check to make sure you have full throttle cable adjustment.
2. Check to see if you have fuel leaks anywhere.
3. Clean pre-heater fuel filter.
4. Replace fuel filter.
5. Clean fuel tank filter
6. make sure the 1/8" hose from intake manifold to P7100 pump is intact.
7. make sure you have no turbo hose leaks.
8. If you or previous owner has messed with the fuel plate make sure that the lever isn't getting stuck on the edge of the plate.

I also forgot, make sure the shut-off solenoid is fully lifting the shut-off lever and holding it there.
