Reasonable Rate for hauling/shipping a truck cab?

Need advice!

My current hitch is a Reese 20k, love the hitch, but since I have a Cab Chassis it causes my trailer to ride uneven, high in the front. I know my buddy Harvey had his hitch shortened. My hitch's height is 12. 5" at it's shortest setting, I saw a trailer saver hitch that sat 10" but it need to be bolted down I was hoping to find one that would just fit into the rails that the Reese is in. Any suggestions?

Hello George. Haven't exchanged messages with you in a long time. I hope your cab and chassis is performing as well as mine has.

I only found two solutions when I was outfitting my cab and chassis back in January '08. I think we talked about it when we visited at May Madness in '08.

The first alternative was the Reese 30k Commericial Fifth Wheel:

It, as you mentioned, was a bolt on but looked like it would be easy to remove if needed.

The other alternative which I chose was to shorten my well-used Reese 20k conventional fifth wheel by about 4 1/2". Shortening the existing hitch was the cheapest solution and the one I chose. It has been perfectly satisfactory and mounts on OEM Reese rails.

Any good welder can shorten your existing 20k fifth wheel for a modest labor fee. It would be easy to have the hitch powder coated to restore its original factory look if you want it. I never bothered, I just shot mine with spray can black. It looks good enough.

I have a B&W Companion on my 05 dually with a custom flat bed... I had to cut down the vertical uprights about 2" and re-drill them to get my hitch lower to keep the RV level... my reason was to put the same load on both trailer axles... I've also had to build a hitch for the RV with an air bag to give it some movement, and have added shocks to the chassis..... all to make it smoother... .

HARVEY --- I want to upgrade to a 32-35 ft with 3 slides (fiver) with a side by side fridge... . something of an upgrade from the 30 ft that I have on a Lippert Chassis... got some suggestions. .

Jim,

My absolute favorite brand, the Travel Supreme is now sadly a part of RV history. If you could find a clean used one it could be a great buy.

All the luxury brands like Newmar, Alfa, Travel Supreme, and more disappeared when the economy turned sharply left and down in '07. If you can find a good used one they can be great choices because older couples who were willing to spend money for quality bought them and took good care of them. As they become too old to travel those trailers go up for sale, sometimes at attractive prices for a knowledgeable and prepared buyer.

A clean late model NuWa HitchHiker Champagne, Premier, or "two digit" Discover America is a good trailer built on a quality Young's Welding frame. A friend of mine just bought a refurbished '06 Premier from NuWa in Chanute and is very pleased with it. A "two digit" DA like my LK32 was built on a Young's frame. A DA 329, 339, etc. was built on a Lippert frame during the '07 - '08 production runs. Some of them have been . . . well, Lippert quality. Bill Stockard steered me toward the NuWa products and made me aware of the Young's frame issue when I started looking for a replacement for my old Travel Supreme back in '06. I have been pleased with mine but am not using it now. I should probably sell it before we're all reduced to riding bicycles.

I looked over http://www.nuwa.com NuWa's inventory of new and used last weekend and their inventory is shrinking fast since they stopped production. They did have a lot of good choices a couple months ago.

If they happen to have something that interests you NuWa is the best manufacturer/dealer I have ever encountered. They are good old-fashioned small town folks with the old traditional mid-western values of hard work and honesty. Their prices are fair and their service is top notch. They won't lie to you or cheat you.

I have successfully used this website: http://www.adhuntr.com/ for nationwide, regional, or local craigslist searches. Of course you know ebay can be another source.
