#1 fuel is worse yet. Most guys will use Power Service, Stanadyne Marvel Mystery Oil, or another additive every couple of tank fulls. Some guys use it every tank. I guess it's personal preferance. It won't hurt to add it every tank, but it might cost a little depending on what you use.

How's it going Texas Diesel? The local Bosch shop in Macon, GA recommends additive with every fillup. Specifically they recommended I use Stanadyne in the blue bottle. The owner has a CTD in a 99 3500. Says two reasons..... First for lubrication of the pump and second if water ever gets to a VP44 it is shot without the additive. According to him, the additives really protect the pump. I take his advice.
