Low Sulfur Diesel

does any one have the real story on the new low sulfur diesel being distributed for the newer diesel vehicles? i have heard that because of the lower sulfur level that those of us with older vehicles designed for higher sulfur levels will need to add an additive to keep parts of the fuel system from deteriorating over time, like the the injector pump, seals, etc. any truth to this?

It can be an issue, yes. I have heard that the producers/distributors/??? will be adding a lubricity additive before it gets delivered to the stations. I prefer to be more safe than sorry and add fuel additive to my fuel.

What is the addiitive for low sulfur diesel, & where can you get it

as far as i know stanadyne makes a sulfur fuel additive, not sure of any others but i am sure there are others out there. i'm sure you can find a local garage that carries or can get stanadyne products.

Amsoil has re-formulated their Diesel Concentrate to accommodate the "ULSD" fuel. The 16 oz. bottle will treat 80 US Gallons, retails for less than $7. 00.

ULSD Color

Geez... has anyone noticed the COLOR of the ULSD? I poured some in a coffee can and thought I picked up some Prestone by mistake! Do you think they could have made the lime-green any brighter?

I've made a fuel MPG test 3 times running the same identical route and speeds from California to here in John Day area eastern Oregon - a distance of 600 miles.



The 2 earlier trips were on the "old" diesel, and each got me 22. 2 MPG, hand calculated.



This last trip, yesterday, got us 20. 5 MPG...



Draw your own conclusions...

Is it really green??? I hadn't heard that before. I haven't filled up in over a month though - sold the truck. My '07 is in though!

The stuff I had was VIVID yellow-green... just like Prestone! Bought it at Speedway.

why is it when there is a engine that can get good mileage,reduce goloble warming,and be cheaper to refine but have this much resistant from the uncle?

Bosche said the newer VP44 Style trucks have the proper O rings etc. I use Amsoil Fuel additive certified for ULSD, I notice less smoke, Espar exhaust smells worse!
