I've been a little restless lately for a different truck. I've had no mechanical problems with my Dodge in 18 months and 14K miles, but I'm thinking of replacing it. I realized my main reason is the ride height. I don't want a truck this tall, yet I need the four wheel drive, and I really want the diesel! I can handle the rear suspension with custom springs, it's the front suspension I have doubts about. I don't think just installing shorter springs would do the job, there probably isn't enough adjustment in the suspension arms to get it back in alignment.

I really like the ride height of the 1/2 ton chevy. My wife can get in easily, and my elderly, short inlaws would have no problem getting in either. I realize I may not be able to drop the Dodge as far as the chevy, but something close to that height would be great.

I haven't seen any kits for lowering the front of these 4X4's, and I don't mind going to a custom shop... so does anyone have any recomendations. TIA

I don't think you can do much with the straight axle suspension without having clearance problems. Especially on rough roads. I was faced with a similar problem when I bought my '95. My handicapped wife could not get in it. She can get in the two wheel drive truck but not the 4X4. The way I solved it was to mount a set of two tread motor home steps on each side. When a door opens the steps on that side extend. Close the door and they retract. Wasn't easy but I have my 4X4 and my wife can get in it.
