lowering rear of tuuck

My brother just got a 2001 3500 4x4 and would like to lower the rear for towing a 5th wheel camper so the 5th wheel is not so high. Are there kits available?

There is a TSB for 2500/3500 4X4s to lower 2" if that would help

Do a seach on the topic. It's been batted around quite a bit here. I may consider having it done some day also.

I have considered a number of options. I put the velvet ride shackles on because they are supposed to lower the height. They might help a 1/2 to 3/4 inches with a moderate load. I have also thought of having my spacer blocks shaved. I could go about 1" and not need new U-bolts. I talked with a machinist and he said he would do it for $150. 00 if they were not nodular cast. If they are nodular cast he sid that it is very hard to cut and would up the price. I think the TSB that is mentioned above has U-bolts, 2 inch shorter spacer blocks and a shorter brake proportioner rod as well as a $500. 00 plus price tag. I have decided to put my trailer springs on top of the axle for about $50. 00 in parts and see if they gets me the clearance I want without putting my trailer too high in the air.

I have been wondering about cutting the rear spacer blocks down as well but the cost that was mentioned above seems way too high given the fact that they could be cut on a metal ban saw. I have not been back under my truck to see if these have a built in taper but I still feel that this could be acomplished as well as new axle locator holes drilled. This would require the purchase of only a set of u-bolts to get the job done. Any comments on this idea.

Lowered 3500

I lowered the rear of my '00 3500 earlier this year. I used the Bell Tech 4" kit. The only really difficult part is removing the factory front spring hangers. They are riveted to the frame and it is not easy to remove those rivets. Mine is a 2wd and I cut the front springs down to get 2" lower in the front. I really like the ride height with 2" off the front and 4" for the rear .

The surfaces of the blocks are parallel (at least they are if you cut it right! ) Good luck.

Just Did It

Just lowered the rear of my Dads truck this weekend.



His truck is a 2002 3500 Quad Cab 4x4 Long Box ETH/DEE all stock.



We used all Dodge parts so that there would be no disrepancies with warranty. We got blocks, shocks, U- bolts, and nuts for a 2002 the same as dads truck but in 2wd
