Tue Im having the 3rd LP put on my 01. All done at the dealer. The 2nd one lasted less than 4k miles. Truck only has 35k on it. Run an edge e-z. The edge really dont have anything to do with this continuing problem does it. I drive the truck very consertavily at 58 years old.

This is only opinion, but I dont think it has anything to do with the EZ.

If the 3rd one prematurely fails, I'd consider dropping the tank & checking for a plugged intake screen, or some reason the pumps are working harder than usual.

My original pump was recalled at 10k miles, it was working normal at that point, but replaced at the dealer. The second pump was ok at 80k but knowing it was getting worn I decided to upgrade to a fass system before it failed.

It may have to do with the average level of fuel in your tank, as some people run close to empty before refueling, which means the pump is working pretty hard to pull the fuel out of the tank from the bottom. I run an inbed tank, and usually keep the main tank over 2/3 full. That may have been helpful to the pumps.

Either way, you have to do something about the OEM system before it fails at a time of "Murphy's" choosing.

I am very happy with the fass unit, but if i was to do it again, i would consider mounting 2 redundant pumps back at the tank, and if one fails in the field, you just move the lines to the backup, and you're back in business. Then you replace the failed pump at home.

By the way, mine has had a VA (same affect as an EZ) and oversized injectors since about 5k miles.

Good luck on your 3rd pump. Maybe the 2nd was bad from the start.

Good idea, I had not thought about the screen in the tank being plugged. I have hear of some of the LP's only lasting a short time like mine did however.

WBlackburn - I'm only @ 136k got it w/75k, @ 97 the first one (for me) went. Dealer did it under 100k deal. After the 2nd one "out of my pocket" I was tired of waiting for someone to come up with a relocation kit w/all hoses, fittings etc. So I took my fuel filter & LP off the engine, with the help of some slotted angle iron, reusing/rebending most of the stock line and fittings I relocated it to the inside of the frame just forward of the tank - just aft of the transfer case. Now it has a positive head pressure and is a pusher pump. I installed a ball valve to secure the fuel flow during filter changes. The ball valve seconds as a anti-theft device if needed. So far so good.

Drop the tank or.......

Don't just look for a clogged screen. Try disconnecting the feed line from the VP and observe the fuel stream as the lift pump operates. I'll bet it pulses, the "valve assembly" in the fuel module located inside the tank is not very reliable. Looks like something found in a garden tractor. Anyway that could also cause a serious restriction.
