Since lack of fuel from the LP causes heat build-up and damage to the VP, would a fuel additive which adds lubrucation back into todays low-sulphur fuel help extend the useful life of both pumps? If so (not wanting to start a fuss, but) which additve would be the most benificial and add the most lubricant? Thanks for any information and suggestions about this topic.

I have been using Stanadyne in every tank ( except once when I needed to fill up and was out of addative, and everyone that sales it was closed ) since day one. During the summer I use Stanadyne Performance Formula Junior, which does have a lubricity addative in it. During the winter I use the regular Stanadyne Performance Formula, it has the same lubricity addative, but also has a pour point improver, and a cetane boost. My original LP lasted for 30,200 miles. Thankfully I had a full time FP gauge to see it starting to die before it was totally dead.

I'm now on my 2nd LP and at 36,250 miles. But now along with the Performance Formula and the Junior, I mix in Stanadyne World Blend. It is identical to the Performance Formula Junior, except for the lubricity, the World Blend lubricity is 5 x stronger !! So I'm hoping with the addition of the World Blend, and my Wildcat Max Flow Kit, that I can get more than 30,000 out of my second LP.

Sorry if this is long and boring.

Jeff

P. S. I'm still on the original VP44.

I'm a additive believer, but I don't think it helps the lift pump... . if it's weak or dead it'll starve the VP44 no matter what the fuel quality.

I do believe that the additives provide extra lubrication for the VP, so that's why I use it. I've tried most popular brands except the Amalagated, which some really like. I've settled on Standadyne on every fill.

I use Power service "Diesel Kleen" (silver jug) in EVERY tankful, along with an equal quantity of ashless synthetic blend 2-stroke oil - doubt much benefit to the LP, but hopefully good for the VP-44 - I'll let you know in a few hundred thousand miles - or sooner if it DOESN'T help! ;)

One member had 235,000 miles on his VP with no problems and he added (?) since new. In theory, the lubrication will definately help the VP. I'm adding a good quality 2 cycle (ashless and intended to be burn in the combustion chamber) oil to the fuel in my 12V and 24V. I mix it at a rate of 200:1. Autozone sells a neat oil bottle you can take the lid off, pick the ratio 25:1 - 100:1 and fill with oil to the gallons added line. I use the 100:1 and cut the amount in half. And the neck of the bottle fits neatly in the fuel filler on the Cummins.

Todd you know my story... ... ..... Just tried different additives here and there... ..... but most of the time never used them. Got 230,000 miles out of my VP and three LP's.
