Well, when I make a sharp turn, the LSD is not disengaging. (is that the term?) The road that my house is on is gravel, so after making the turn you can see 2 tire tracks were they were spinning. Also there is the binding feel. I was thinking of changing the lube and adding a friction modifier. It shouldn't need it because my local Dodge dealer was supposed to change it, but they're a bunch of crooks so who knows. What are your opinions?

Disengaging is probably the wrong term. Actually, it sounds like your LSD is nice and tight, like it should be. I've got a Trak-Lok in my 99 2500, but I bought it used and haven't changed the lube yet. My Jeep XJ has an Auburn Gear limited slip, and let me tell you, you'll know within a mile of changing the lube if the friction modifier isn't there. It'll chatter in every corner.

I'm going to assume that you've got a Trak-Lok factory LSD. There's a set of clutch packs in the differential. These clutch packs will try to keep left & right spinning together. They'll slip if there's enough resistance on each side, such as in a turn on dry pavement.

So, if you're leaving tracks on gravel, I view that as a good thing, it means your LSD is working.

Sounds like the dealer forgot to add the friction modifier. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that the fluid was changed. Without the modifier the diff will try and lockup around corners and can be noisy.

I'm going to change the fluid/friction modifier and see if that helps. Just annoying when I'm backing up with my gooseneck trailer on gravel, dirt, or grass. Does it just use gear lube? If so, how much and what modifier should I use. Thanks!

Just my 2¢: I've had a shudder (my truck had) whenever turning tight or backing out of a parking place, etc. I have always used Mopar Lube & modifier in my ASD (Mopar's term). Just changed fluid again using Valvoline fully synthetic gear lube. The shudder disappeared (no adjustments made) from the test run immediately after! and no, I still have my ASD function (we expect 7 inches rain on the 6th day of rain in a row!). I will be using synthetic from now on.

Just my 2c but when the people that service my work truck decided to go with synthetic, with out my knownledge, and forgo the additive, mine started screwing up bad enough that I took it to the dealer thinking I had drive train problems. Mechanic backed it up once and said LSD. Changed the fluid with Mopar and used the additive, worked fine ever since. Before you ask, I do not know what the synthetic was but my truck was not happy!! The stuff that came out looked thin and black. ps that was in my 98. 5 with 370K :)
