I have been using the LF3552 and was wondering if the New LF3805 (StrataPore) was ok to use on my 98 24valve? The 3805 is smaller but supposed to be better filtration. Another forum, 1 person said NO, smaller threads and wasn't intended for the longer service interval. I don't buy the thread part but the service interval could be correct.

Lee, for what it is worth I was using the L 3552 and was sending oil to Blackstone Labs. I got great reports back on my oil. All levels were well below average. I did however have a lower oil pressure than with the L3349 which I am using now. My oil pressue jumped about 10# which means I am getting more oil up and around the engine. I will be sending off 2 more samples using the L 3349. I was also told by the Cummins Parts counter that the L 3349 is a good filer and has been a work horse for some years. Should have the results back soon on oil samples and will keep you posted.

Hi guys. Any of you using the new Dodge approved filter # 5016547AA. It is supposed to be the replacement for the 3552 and 3385. I immediately replaced the 3552 when the bad press started the Dodge filter. In fact I bought the first on from my Dealer. He was suprised when I ordered by specific part number.

Howdy tlippy,
I just bought one today from Dodge. It came to $9. 68 with tax. A fair price considering I can pick it up during my travels at work. My last oil change was done with a Fram filter. I know, shoot me... We decided to take a weekend trip and a change was due. The Fram was available and Dodge was closed so I settled for less. When I removed the Fram today with 4,122 miles on it, it had a piece of rubber hanging in the middle hole by the threads. With the Wix filter fiasco of years past still in my mind, I could picture this piece of rubber clogging a piston cooling nozzle and ruining my day. I won't settle for less than a Fleetguard anymore. Be it from cummins or Dodge. The new part number filter looks different inside too.

When we got the new MOPAR number awhile back I had my dealer order me some and he ordered a dozen for the dealer. When they came in I changed my oil. There is a difference between the new number filter nat the filter I took off. I use the MOPAR becaust it is the latest and greatest, and it is made by Fleetguard for Chrysler. I also work for Chrysler so I get a discount on parts so the filter costs a little over 8 dollars. I figure if I ever have a problem with my engine that is oil filter related then Chrysler can fix it for FREE.

Tlippy,
What was the bad press on the LF3552? I got a new one from Geno's... ... ...
Uh Oh... ...
Would he sell me a bum product?
I hope not!

I don't believe there was any "bad press" on the Fleetguard LF3552 MicroGlass, just the LF3349 (cellulose filtering media), which, with the revised case, is now the LF3385. The LF3806 StrataPore (which, with its new filtering media superseded the LF3552), has been superseded by the LF3894 (updated case design). I ordered six of the new LF3894s from Cummins NW over a month ago, and I'm still waiting delivery.

I have also been using the LF3552 with oil samples being sent to Blackstone and no problems. The local Cummins dealer said they cant seem to get any of the new LF3805 filters. I have not heard of any problems with the LF3552.

At the TDR rally last week, Fleetguard representatives discussed the new Stratapore filter and answered many questions from the peanut gallery.

The Stratapore media was developed to provide a long filter life with the extended oil drain intervals of the newer diesel engines.

The stratapore media has many layers with progressively smaller pores as the oil moves to the center of the filter. This provides lower restriction to oil flow because particles are trapped throughout the filter according to their size. Fleetguard claims that the Stratapore filter allows better oil flow in cold temperatures, and toward the end of long oil change intervals.

Fleetguard also said that the Microglass filter will actually trap smaller particles than the Stratapore filter, but the Microglass media becomes restrictive when the oil drain interval is extended. The Microglass filters are not going to be discontinued (I asked), and Fleetguard considers them to be one of the best filters on the market for normal oil change intervals.

Note: the Dodge version of the ISB has a smaller oil pan (for front axle clearance) and a shorter oil filter (to clear the AC lines) than the other versions of the ISB. Do not attempt to use the ISB extended oil change intervals in a Dodge pickup. Use the oil change intervals from the owners manual.

Guys, re Bad Press: I think I remember when this subject first came up that Cummins said to NOT use either the 3349 or 3552. This conversation took place over a month ago on Rob's site. The info caused me to go into overload panic - so much so that I changed my oil filter in the middle of a vacation trip. Went to a Dodge Dealer and had him install #5016 547AA. I think Dodge has the only approved new filters. Cummins is playing catch-up.

I bought 8 of the LF3552 filters last spring at a good price ($5. 95). Then I started seeing some postings about them having problems and being replaced by newer types. I'm glade to see that the filter is ok to use for normal oil change intervals, won't have to despose of them and buy the new types.
