no furnace fan??

My BIL hauls RV's for a living and he was asking me about a lube plate

that either screws down or is welded to a fifth wheel hitch. I believe he

said it was an orange color. Does anybody know the name of this plate or

brand?

TIA, Stephen Dancy

I have tried many different types of these things with out much success, I went back to using grease. Never seen an orange one though, there are white ones available at Camping World that either fit around the kingpin or screw to the pin box around the kingpin.

My fiver has had the same lube plate since I bought it in the mid-90s. I intend to replace it when it cracks or tears. It hasn't. Bought RV in Texas, and used it in Oklahoma, now NC and virginia, been in most of the lower 48 with it...

Don't know why mine is lasting (it is white in color)

I use the one that wedges on the kingpin. . probably not a good idea for one that tows new RV's... .

the one you are talking about is orange in color and I think it screws or rivits to the hitch. Do a search along those perameters and you might find it.

I have had the type that is installed on the 5th wheel pin, it's a white teflon or nylon disc about a quarter inch thick or slightly less, available at most decent RV suppliers - coincidentally, just replaced the nearly 20 year old original with a new one a couple of weeks ago - the old one was getting a bit dog eared after the years and 80-90K miles...

They work beautifully, require no grease - which is a plus if you sometimes brush against the 5er hitch with clothing you'd really rather not have grease stained! Obviously, someone hauling commercially would need one permanently installed on the 5er hitch instead - and that's probably what was referred to with the "orange" bit.

I have the white one, worked good for the 3 years I've had it. Now I have to replace it because it didn't hold up to the skid steer! (I picked up the front of the trailer and caught the disc. ) :{

You could get a white one, open up the hole a little so it goes on the kingpin easy, but don't fall right off when your hooking up, and remember to take it with you every time you drop off a trailer.

I dont have a 5er, but I used to use a similar thing on my big rig.

I've never had a problem with them and some of the loads I've pulled were far from legal weight. :-laf

I always tried to keep my truck clean. This helped a lot.

white lube plate

My first two 5ers had 8" wide white lube plate. I changed out the 2nd. plate with a 10" wide plate. The Day Dreamer I have now, had a 10" plate installed. I noticed that the hitch would rock and roll a little. The Day Dreamer has a much wider king pin hitch. (air ride) hitch. My hitch in the truck is a 24k Reese of new design and is much wider. After a little reseach I noticed suppliers recommended using a 12" wide lube plate which I could not find locally. I ordered 2 online. Hitch matchup is much more stable now. I can now stand back and see the white between the hitch. I have made 1 trip to coast with the 12" plate and after getting home after 500 miles the paint was not hardly scratched on the Reese.

The orange teflon pads are riveted to the fifth wheel. They can be purchased from either Dan's (Trailer Supply, I think) or Dually Depot in Elkhart, IN. They are about $40 installed if I remember correctly. I recommend Dan's but either supplier will do.

Both of those retailers cater to the RV transport industry.

Thank you Harvey, that's the info I was looking for. I will get in touch with these places and get one ordered. It may take a little time but you can get the always get the help or information you need on TDR!!Oo.

Thanks again, Stephen Dancy

I use the white clip on disk and have for over two years now in the RV transport industry so it gets used all the time. It works great and my B&W hitch has hardly any wear on it. The orange ones that Dan's and Dually Depot sell actually weld on or at least that's how they do it. I didn't want to mess up the finish on my hitch so I opted for the cheap $10 plate. Just say no to grease in my opinion, what a mess.

I had the white teflon many years ago when I had a 5th wheel. It lasted 10 years and mega miles of towing before I sold the 5er.
